Thumbs up

Hi again!
Thanks Anders, for the ideá about the tape trick, show me this one next time we meet

Bruno, thanks for your comment about my garage and my work..I try to keep it as clean as possible even if it sometimes don´t look so sorry no pics on the hammer directly, any specific part you think about? or take a fly and I will gladly show you all, you are very welcome to visit me

Nico, nice to see that you follow me in the garage!

..so finaly the door is competed and it turned out nice.
Håkan finished the hoodsides today and I started to make the front edge of the hood, it´s not an easy hoodtop to make on this -33 so we decided to make the hood in several pieces to get the tight fit at all edges and beadlines....

..and this shows the beaded edge who will follow the grille all the way with the same gap...thanks to the pullmax we can do the bead even in this really tight radius areas, no way to do this in a beadroller with a clean result...

..and..

....this is the goal with the work we do

Finally I must say that is nice to work with sombody else, Im almost always just by myself in the garage

Take care!
// Per

Per,

It is a pleasure to see your work. I learn so much just seeing what you are doing.

Talking

Thanks for your kind comments!
Håkan, I will be back as soon I have a "hole" in my calendar

Ben, sorry but I have no pics of the tooling this time, it´s designed by Håkan,
but I try to explain the design of it and how it works Im sure you understand

We start to make a folded 90 degrees edge with a hight around 8-10 mm, even this isn´t so easy in this tight radius
The edge then works as a guide against the guide we tacked to the lower tool, the female one...the guide we tacked to it was a piece of tube so it wouldn´t interfere in the tight inner radius of the pieces...

The male part was grinded to a ballshape to make it in the radius, this shape is not to perfere for straight beads, and it need very carefully feed throu the tooling..if you go just a little to fast there will be dirty marks after the tools

Finally we cut away the most of the erlier folded edge to get just the bead follow the edge, I must say that it came out really nice and the result looking great

So that show us one more time how well the pullmax works with really simple tools if they had the right "thinking" in the design

Sorry for the complicated story around this tooling, but I hope you understand

Take care all!

I've heard of/seen long ago, a "tape-edge-locator-trick"
I'll see if I can explain it decently
25mm (1") panel overlap is most often times sufficient to have enough material for the flange.

Use tape to mark a known distance from outer tape edge to (door)gap edge.

Temporarily fasten new panel in it's final position on the car. Outer tape edge must still be visible with the new panel on top of it

Now put a new layer of tape on top of first laye of tape, following the outer edge.

The INNER edge of this layer of tape marks the excact position of the edge on the car

Now all you have to do is add distance for door gap (bend allowance included)

Hope this makes sense
Great and simple idea I will need to try out soon on my coupe.

Thanks Kevin, but I must say that I can't take credit for it. Someone else who's name I regretfully don't remember posted the trick a couple of years ago
... I just remembered the trick
