Default Two-up is more fun

I joined this forum after googling for ideas on DIY pedal cars, but I see this section is rather quiet.

My 2 boys are turning 5 in less than 2 weeks time and I normally build them something for their birthday or Xmas. So I decided to build them an old style pedal car like I used to have way back when. These modern battery powered jobbies don't do it for me.

Here's a few pics

I have some 0.8 mm sheet metal to make the bodywork from. It will be my first try at any sort sheetmetal shaping, hope it comes out cool enough.

Welcome to Metalmeet. You have a nice start on your pedal car. It looks like you are going to power it with a "2 cylinder" power plant .

Keep us posted of your progress and ask questions if you need help.

Will be powered by a 2 MP motor - Monster Power.

Here's a pic of the powerplant on their last b'day.

I don't want to be Debbie Downer, but I think it needs to be said. Less than 2 weeks to shape a pedal car for someone who has never done metal shaping is not going to be a very realistic timeline. If you are simply going to bend the sheet so it's all simple rolls, then I think it will be enough time, but if you're going to recreate any particular car or have any 3 dimensional shape, you will probably find it takes a lot more time than you realize to make it look good and/or symmetrical.

Ja Shawn, you'r right. I would'nt even attempt something that complicated for a first try. I wasn't looking to do a very realistic car, just a fun toy for the boys and it actually came out quite nice. My brother has been building kit cars for quite some time and has done his fair share of Lotus 7 and GT40 replicas, so I left the body work up to him.

And as delivered on just in time for their birthday
