Some of you guys asked about the dimple dies that I was using on the tanker. Well I was out in the garage, and needed a few things; one, I think I need some louvers ( I got the dies but no frame yet) and two, recesses for lfush mount screws.
So I made these, and seemed to work, just need refinement. For the louvers, I took some ideas from the 'Brits" video ( NO offense, I just don't want to butcher the spelling of his name), and used some angle iron for the base. It worked well. 005.JPG 006.JPG As you can see that I used two screws to locate the angle, and used a cold chisle to cut the metal, then I used a air chisle with a reposse' (sp) tool to deepin' the louver 007.JPG 008.JPG Not real pretty, but for 10 min. work, this has potential. It could easily be cleaned up with a file.

also needed a recess for some screws so that I could continue to mount the body on the tanker and I can up with this
009.JPG This could made with a drill and cut-off wheel. Since I just cut though the angle and backed it up with another piece of steel. Then using the reposse' tool.. 010.JPG And some clamps to hold it still. I just LIGHTLY hit the metal until it formed down into the 'die'. And this is whaty I ended up with 011.JPG 012 (2).JPG 014.JPG All this was scrap pieces that I used... Something for nothing

I don't have any real shots of building dimple dies, but this is how it's done (in theory).
You just find two pieces of metal that will fit into one another. A 2" solid blank (round) will fit into a 2" PIPE (heavy or thiple walled). 019.JPG 020.JPG Here's the idea, this could be a square die. 017.JPG Allow one piece to stick out of the other (maybe a 1/4 in) and you have the male die 018.JPG Then just cut a 1/4 in thick "ring" and weld it down to another piece of stock. Hole down through the middle..long bolt and some finish grinding..you're done

Ron thanks for showing those dies. You always do such a good job fabricating tools. The dimple dies appear easy to make. I have to try that out. They will be used on a tool box I am planning.
Thanks for posting those Ron. Paul
