I was really surprised at least on the first couple days, that John Jordan and I were almost the only ones working under the "outside" roof. It was really quiet out there, and till the weather turned cold, there was a beautiful breeze to cool oneself off. When I went inside periodically, the noise was unbearable, and most folks on the warm days were sweating profusely. Also, at night the lights out there were surprisingly good, even though there weren't that many of them. Kerry held his seminars out there, and I think that worked out really good, till it got cold.
On that cold note, I suggested to many, seriously, that a wood stove would make things much more comfortable on the cold days. Just enough to take the chill off the inside of the buildings. I think a lot of guys may have gone home early, because of the cold. Maybe I'm wrong. My wife and I are currently looking at installing a wood stove in our house. We have to remove about 20 feet of stainless steel double wall chimney, and re-install new stuff, because the existing doesn't meet building code here anymore. It was installed when the house was built, about 19 years ago, and has never been used. The inside is still shiny stainless. The chimney is only rated for 1200* F, and now needs to be 1800*F. IF, and I think we will, go forward with this, I would donate this chimney, strap it to a pallet, and ship it, as its worthless here. The only negative would be the potential cost of shipping. Is the stainless thick enough for a shrinking disc? I'd take some.

How about an upgrade get together? I'd be willing to come down and help wire, hang lights, install heaters, air pipe or whatever. I'd prefer to do it in warmer weather though.
How do you get a quote in the blue box???

We need to discuss with the board exactly what we would like done. Then we can pare that down to something reasonable. I don't think we need more 110 outlets in the Exhibit Hall, but I would like to see at least 4 220 outlets on each long wall in there coupled with a dedicated circuit for an air compressor. Lights would be nice, but I think we could get more bang for our buck by painting the ceiling white. Hanging some 8 ft fluorescents wouldn't be that hard though. The big building could use some more lights ................. didn't pay much attention to anything else in there though. Piping in air lines shouldn't be a big problem, especially if we can get the use of a powered pipe threader for a bit. I'm thinking 1/2" or 3/4" black pipe, with outlets every ten feet - that way we can just cut the sticks of pipe in half and thread it ............... no worries about patching in on the fly. Tees, pipe, QDs and about a dozen elbows should get the Exhibit Hall pretty well aired up. Any ideas on the big building (if anything needs to be done over there)? If we replace lights in the Exhibit Hall and the big building, maybe the old fixtures could be recycled into one or two of the other buildings for now? Cut costs and recycle in one shot. I'd like to see the big building and the Exhibit hall treated pretty much equally. If this year was any indication, the big building ends up being the loud room since there's enough room to fit cars in and grind on them. Maybe we can start a separate thread on this to get input? Maybe Doug or someone could get the measurements we need to figure how much pipe and conduit we'll need? I'm aiming for spring ....................... it gets a might bit cold in those unheated buildings. I could bring a salamander or 2, but they wouldn't do much good with the power shut off Just my thoughts, Tim D.

5 or 6 hundred next year would be great. That was just a ghost figure as to what we could grow to at the fairgrounds without to much investment...Gator

I talked to doug a little about this...I think he liked a lot of these ideas...I basically had said the same suggestions as tim D. ...(other than I think a few more outlets..110v...and spread those out over a couple more circuits)
seems to me spring might be a good time for several folks..a little warmer being more pleasant for all involved. Doug,and/or the board of directors.... I agree with someone else's statement...use these upgrades to the site as a bartering tool...maybe a reduced rental fee or something similar...just a thought...we are not only upgrading for ourselves but the other 50 weeks worth of use by others...might be a selling point for the fairboard to other potential users...which could generate the town/county more revenue!! my 2 cents only...no animals were harmed in the writing of these thoughts!!
