Default It's done and it works!

Hi guys,
Here's my new air power hammer thingy. I bought a Harbor Freight chipping hammer a while back then never used it and I had some 1/2"wall 4"x4" tube and 3/8"wall 2"x2" tube left over from a mixing platform I built a few years ago. So here is the result.

After some paint.

The thing really works well and I only have about $300 into it.

Hi John,

You do really nice fabrication and design work. Just like your previous beater bag stand you leave no detail untouched. You have to love that shade of blue you favor.

That's the nice comment. Now the bad stuff .

Man those things are noisy, Kerry had one at Huntsville and we started drawing straws to see who would cut his air hose. You'll need a hefty air supply and deaf neighbors but it should power out panels just fine.

Make sure if you bring it to MM04 that you give Randy enough time to finish building the loud room.

Thanks Wray,
One of the things that stuck in my head from the Metal Meet was a comment you made about air hammers, it was something along the lines of "why would anyone want an airhammer, with all that noise how can you hear your radio" Well you were right! It's loud, real loud. But I think I found a solution, if I buy a pair of 30,000 watt speakers and aim them directly at my head I should be able overcome the noise of the hammer.

Boogiemanz1,
I made my own tooling for it. The lower dies are made out of S7 steel and UHMW. Their 2"tall by 1"-1/2" wide and the stems are 1"X1". For the upper hammers I bought some chisels from Harbor Freight and cut the ends off and installed different heads.

I'm working on a set of shrinking dies for it next.

Default Planishing Hammer

Top notch workmanship. I like the detail on the pedal.

Nice looking hammer and tooling. Can't wait to see what you shape with it.
