Hi Mike,

That is some amazing workmanship!! Did you make drawings to work from or are you replicating an existing automobile? The plastic work you were doing looked awesome too any particular reason you gave up on it? Keep up the great work and thanks for letting us enjoy it too.

Dave

Hi Mike,

Ditto, what Dave said! Modeling anything will bring you face to face with many of the real world problems of a fullscale build.

Today plastic in scale, tomorrow the real thing. You're on your way. Great job!

Hey Mike,
Glad to see you over here too! I saw your work over on the Scale Auto Enthusiast forums. I'm the one with the brass scratchbuilt trailer and posted the thread about using rubber molding compound.

I lurk around here more than I post. One of these days I'll post some pics of the trailer here.

Mike

Thanks for the kind remarks. Since I dont have area to do the metal work, room or even funds to build the full scale I decided I'd build it in 1/12.

As you said Wray, its a great way to forsee real world challenges. To answer dauer's question, I did all the drawings in AutoCAD for the body, suspension, everything. I have a lot of the problems that I would have in full scale, which is great since this is a prototype for the full scale.

Hopefully a high calibur hot rod builder (i.e. Chip Foose) will see this and be able to relate it to the process of building a real car.

Thanks for all the kind remarks. I finally turn 18 in May, so I will finally be able to get a job at a shop doing body work, machining, or fabricating. Hell, maybe start out just sweeping the floors, but anything to learn.

Thanks.

Cool mike's model

Working ball joints on a model car?????? Holy Mackinoly Dude .... why arent you in some kinda design school or signed up for some metalshaping classes for spring break??? Somebody get this kid an E-wheel and some sheetmetal and turn this guy loose...We all need inspiration like this on a regular basis and I say thats what this forum and community are for and I can hardly contain myself from dragging out my model collection and investing years of my life into creating works of art like yours. What's next????? A working 426 HEMI and a blower??? I urge you to take full advantage of the resources in this community and bring these works of art to life in metal... whatever it takes to get you some metal shaping experience and get these works of art into the world for all to see. If you are a kid still in school there are scholarships to places like Wyotech and The Pasedena School of Automotive Design where guys like Chip Foose got educated. Granted there are numerous experts in THIS community and the education available here can't be found anywhere else and you can't beat the price for the expertise and hands on training you could receive from the masters here. Whatever it takes ... give yourself permission to persue this passion and see where it leads you and the other members of this community to give themselves the same permission to participate where they otherwise might stop. Give yourself the opportunity to follow your passion and allow those that have these skills to teach you things you never thought possible...UNTIL NOW....I'd like nothing more than to see what you 're creating brought to life and I bet there would be no shortage of support from this community either...LET 'ER RIP MAN!!!

Completely Inspired,

Korey Wood

In the area of Metro-Atlanta I live in, there are no metalshaping classes. Theres a technical college, but he only covers welding. I wanted to get my certification there, but I'd have to take the 6month class 12hours a day 5 days a week. Unfortunately I dont have the time for that since I'll be in college next year, and working over the summer.

I was looking at Art Center, where Chip went, but at $60,000 a year it was a little pricey. I looked at other design schools, but they didnt offer what I was interested in.

Seeing something I designed, or like the design of come to life from my own hands. Especially out of steel, or when it involves TIG Welding (Oh God, I cant get enough of that).

I really take pride in what I do. I am the "resident welder and fabricator" for my school, and I take a lot of pride in the way it comes out. People say I overdo my work, but I'd rather it be over done than half assed. Even when the part cant be seen.

I turn 18 Sunday so I'm already hunting around for a job/apprenticeship at a shop. So far no luck, but I know two more places to try out before I start looking at body shops. I'm looking at hot rod, custom car, and fabrication shops to get a job at and get some experience metal shaping and welding. I'm a self taught welder, and I would like to get some real world experience and more time TIG welding. At a body shop I'll be sanding that "B-word".

Wow I really rambled on there. Sorry. I appreciate the interest though.
