Default Heavy duty planisher

Hi,
I want to build a planisher that will planish 12 and 14 gauge steel, any ideas for What kind of air unit I would need for this machine. I will be using this unit to planish parts for armour.

Thanks,
Ron Simmons

I think a large rivet gun would do it. I'm not sure how well the more popular chicago style air motors do on real heavy panels. Make sure you're frame is real stiff, to put as much work into the panel as possible and not just into flexing the frame.

Also consider using an English wheel for planishing. A real stiff frame will do nicely. Kerry sells a wheel that is extra stiff for this type of work.

You'll want to pre-planish the panels first to remove all the big lumps. Planishing will only do that final smoothing that makes it look perfect.

Ron,

You might look at some of Kent White's offererings. Some of his stuff is pretty heavy duty.

John Norton has built a heavy duty planishing hammer similar to Kerrys, as well. Pics somewhere in their respective galleries? Hate to admit that I'm too tired to look for them .
