It appears to me the hood line needs lowered just a tad. That should give the illusion of a taller roof. I think the big wheels look great!

Hi Randy,

If you looked at my fullscale drawing, you would see they look like tractor tires. I'm very familar with the look of large tires that are found on Duesenbergs, Packards etc. having mounted quite a few of them. The Huber Bugatti design concept scaled at a 105" wheelbase has tires much larger than what are available. The wheels and tires have to be made smaller than the drawing depicts.

Randy, Wray, Richard,

The only way I scaled the last pic I posted was that I scaled the T57 to have a wheelbase on 117mm on my screen. Then I pasted Alex's last drawing on top of it and adjusted to equal wheelbase. That way the whole thing got bigger (but kept proportions!!!) The wheels on our Bug (in that pic) are 24"+ :o :o.
I think we should go for 22" which are a LOT easier to get hold of. And as Randy suggested: Lower the hood a tad. That'll also give more area for "glas surface". Coosing smaller wheels also makes it possible to make the rear fenders a bit smaller, which again will give us the opportunity of making a larger door for the big guys.

BTW: Don't read the numbers on my last pic! They don't fit to anything..... just lazyness that I didn't erase them

Default Me too

I agree Richard, I thought the T57 was 117" too, and Alex's drawing are of a 105" right???
Not that the size really matters, as long as the porportions are correct. What I mean is, when you put the drawing of our car over a 117" wheelbase car and match the wheelbase, you are really just showing what our car would look like at 117".

If that's the case, it does seem that 117" might be too big.

I'm gonna remeasure at 110" and call about tires today.

Wray- If we go with 110", are you still thinking we would reduce the tire size a bit? That's the feeling I'm getting off you.

The only drawback of Alex's supersonic speed is a bit of confusion!

Jay

Default Ok Anders

Sorry Anders,

We were obviously writing at the same time.

My Bad.

So, instead of raising the roof, we lower everything else a smidge, could work, as long as it's not drastic.

So Anders, what would the tire height be at 22" for wheels?( you are saving me the measuring, if you already have.

Jay

Hi Jay,

It's OK. I thought I might have spread some confusion not telleing that I had just enlarged Alex's Drawing .
I'd say:
22" Wheels, 110" wheelbase, same height as the T57, lower the hood a bit and lets see how that looks

ALEX!!! Where are youuuu? :o :o :o

the entire body was sloped down some so the hood / doors have a rake to thjem, then enlarged the green house some to compensate ... i think i like it a lil more then the level top to the hood

the car "jumps forward" due to the quick way i skewed the body to lower the front, not because im suggesting relocating stuff. im meerly talking height here

its my suggestion, its the way i personal would go for my tastes

Default Tires

Hey All,

I just talked to Frank at Lucas Automotive in Long Beach. I had mentioned I found them in a copy of Hemming's Classic Car.

They have a Denman tire, I think he said it fits a Model A, labeled 450-21. Obviously for a 21" wheel.

He said the last 22" tire he had heard of was a Lester truck tire, and that they were nearly extinct due to lack of demand (not being cast anymore). It is called a 600-22 and may be available in limited supply.

The 450-21s are $85 each, and when the 600-22s were available, they were $147 each. Both fairly reasonable, considering.

The outside dim. of the 450-21 is about 30", and that seems about right when I measure off the concept drawing. May be a very slightly taller sidewall.

What do you think?

Later,
Jay

P.S. Hot Rod Kid, your animated gif is very cool!

nice comparison in #941 Richard.

It looks like a couple inches stretch and seats more reclined might bring us a lot closer and large person friendly. The guy in the T57 is sitting pretty high and upright it seems to me.
