Default Bugatti44.dwg

Attached is an ordinary 2D AutoCad drawing file that a lot of you should be able to work with. The only kicker is that the contour lines exported by SolidWorks are not directly dimensionable. They're splines, I guess.

Mike,

Thanks for posting the dxf. Problem is when I tried to access it I got a message the file is corrupted.

Has anyone been able to load the file?

Doug

Hi Doug,

I downloaded it on two different computers viewing it with two different programs. Both worked fine. They are dwg. files not dxf.files, maybe that is the problem you are having.

I know the Cadillac V-16 concept version has been built and debuted at Retromobile -- but it didn't make the transition from concept illustration to reality that well. (my personal belief as the proportions are a bit "off") I believe the Alfa-based project was underway at one point, but I do not know the current status. I think the hangup on the Bugatti-based project was due to sourcing of chassis components and other engine/instrumentation parts to make it "Bugatti authentic".
Hi Mark,

Thanks for the info on Luis Huber. I did a google search on Luis and found out that he is a professional illustrator/artist. There is a book on birds listed that he co-illustrated. I guess he must be a car design enthusiast as well.

I have looked at the pictures of PurSangs attempt at building Huber's design
which they showed at Retro mobile but something looks very odd. It doesn't look like new coachwork and it is horrible at that. There seems to be a mystery there.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for posting the section views of the main body section in dwg. files!
Now, everyone that has a 2D CAD program can view the files directly, plus help work on them. Tube frame design proposals can now be offered by anyone that has a 2D CAD program.

I'm sure you will keep submitting 2 D drawings from your solid model as you develop it further.

The idea is to break the design job down into several parts, which will lighten Mike's load and also allow many different design proposal's for various components to be considered.

Hi Wray,

In my experience, .dwg format may not be a good way to interchange cad files. I've never had much luck reading them. Dxf, R12, seems to be something most people can read.

Can you post them as dxf, or if not, maybe Mike can?

Doug

If everybody can open the dxf then I won't mess with the dwg in the future.

I can open both files successfully, but the XP Pro & IE 6 combo do not seem to have a native viewer for either format.

Smile Retro Bugatti

Hello to all..
There is a long time that i don´t address to the group, simply because the building of my car goes slowly, and the opics i have may be not menainful to show.I´m finishing the wireform and start the body probably next month.Interesting project to talk about.(Bugatti inspired car)
.
Looking the drawings at the begining, concerning the chasis, seems that is asking for a bird cage type! The doors bottom are enough high to put a tube.Long hood to install diagonals and a lean upper tube, thin wall, and good section.I discard all of you have a tig or a mig to weld thin wall.(i don´t have, so i used 2mm wall tubes, with a common stick welder!)
Having the freedom to use anything, (250.00!!!), why don´t use a real independiente ,a arms , with all sort of freedom to tune it in any way!The rear and front suspensions showed, seems to be fixed., or with not many chances to play with them. How to change camber and caster, and fundamentally toe in/out!..at the rear!?Particlarly the rear one.seems very poor.
Engine..
Why a v8?
A big BMW!...Joy!:-)..Fun..Music!.nice to see!..also to fill the space into a so long hood.
Hugs to all.
Mr RedWine
Argentina.

Mr Redwine, good to hear from you again. I hope you have been well. We would very much like to see pictures of your project. I don't know if the pictures you posted before are still here after the change to a new site.

We are only wworking on the body shape now using Solidworks. When we have a shell to work with we will start on the chassis, suspension, steering and powerplant.

Keep in touch.............john
