I finally figured out how to use the model Alex did to start on the buck design. I started on the back fender since there was some talk of possible interference with the front. I had to import it into Rhino first and cut away what I didn't need. The model is so big it was killing my old machine. I was able to then "skin" it and use that skin to cut the individual panels. I have a question on exactly the buck should fit. If you look at the pic you'll see the area I'm not sure of. Should the panels follow the radius that would join the fender to the body? There's a couple more pics in my gallery. I didn't add them here since they're not finished.

Alex recently sent me a DXF file of the sideview of his latest 115" wheelbase version of the Bugatti. I plotted that file out fullscale on paper and then took the following pictures to show the real size of the car with the 115" wheelbase.
The plotted drawing has a real fine pen line which I freehand trace over with a large magic marker so that the lines will show better. I had plotted out the earlier 105" wheelbase version months ago, and my conclusion was that size was way too small. This 115" wheelbase version looks to me to be doable. I could fit into the cockpit with some groaning but I could get in. ![]() ![]()

Wray, if your Tide bucket seat was raised up to the same level as the cut out person's butt, your head would be through the roof. I don't think you'd fit comfortably at all.
Let's build this for real people, not the 'national average'. I've flown about 750,000 miles in airline seats that were designed for the average person. IT SUCKS!!!!!!! Lifes' too short! Can't we just stretch the cockpit about 4 inches and put a couple more in the roof with the same tire size??? Btw, what's that white stuff???? It was 73 here today....

Wray, I was going to suggest a test that is a variation on Kerry's comment.
Could you take another picture with your bucket propped up to the same seat height as the dummy? And then pick your feet up and put them in the same position as the dummy. That dummy also looks like it is sitting quite upright. The combination of all that looks like it might be rather uncomfortable for you. Show us that picture and tell us how you feel in that orientation. I think that you might need to be a bit more petite than you are to fit well in the current size/layout envelope. I drive a lot of different rental cars these days and don't exactly have the 34" waistline of my youth. I can pretty much guarantee that I will always need to move the seat back in the tracks and recline the seat back from the position selected by the rental company car jockeys. |

I had my son take the picture, he took it from an angle and the land slopes down where he was standing. The dummy is a 6 foot tall model, and he has plenty of room. For me it will be a lot easier getting in this car than a E-type Jaguar and there will be plenty of headroom. I stood and sat in front of the car to provide a better sense of scale not to show that I could easily fit in it.
Alex assured me that the cockpit was large enough, after seeing it in fullscale I agree. Tire and wheel sizes can be adjusted and fine tuned easily. In contrast the previous 105" wheelbase version was definately too small. Here is a picture of the Toom Special built on a XK Jaguar chassis about seven years ago. It too has a Bugatti theme and is very close in size to our Bugatti project.

hi guys,
i think the crash test dummy is sitting too high, i think where wray is sitting ( a few inches lower) is where the seat needs to be. also, i believe the angle of the legs of the dummy is too straight up and down, i`m thinking the floor of the car should be like an xke where the driver basically sits on the floor with the legs extending forward . gary |
