Default louver press

hi all

finally got our louver press we have wanted. it is a mittler bros. kit that we got from gully. the frame is made from 4x4 3-8 wall and that puppy is heavy. it is all done now and painted we added a laser to help in the centering of the louvers. the throat depth is 48" and total height is 8'
yes i tried to get a super model to pose next to it but since pop is a shy man  and does not like to get out in public or talk much i figured i would put him in the pic. johnny

i would put a finished pic up but i cant get them to load

Johnny,

Looks great! I am surprised you could get Roger to pose. What will your first project be?

Gulley,

I can understand the hood louvers but I prefer my humor and my luggage dry.

Oh yeah, the machine looks really stout, and so does the model.

Default louver press

Johnny and Roger,

Nice looking machine. The Mittler Bros have some nice dies, that's what I have in mine.

I guess I'll have to lower my price on louvers since there is two of us in the business.

Nice looking little machine there Roger and Johnny ! Ought to be plenty sturdy too!

Okay, so I said little machine, and I doubt it would even fit into my garage .

What a monster! (The press that is.)

I'm wondering about the ladder brace design. Did someone spec this out or is this your design? I've never been too keen on ladder bracing where the stresses are forced lateral. The resulting weak point is the area between the two horizontal arms. Have you had a chance to put it under load?

Being that it's 3/8" wall tubing, you shouldn't have a problem with louvers though.

hi all, i'm working on posting photos- really i am- stupid computer -i'm goanna get my favorite daughter-in-law down here to whoop this thing into shape.
hi keith, don't start cutting your prices yet, last thing we need is a national louver price war. mettler makes a nice product yes.
hi timD i've seen your garage- this press won't fit , i've seen your garage - nothing else is goanna fit.
hi doug, see you at randys, say hi to Cindy for us.
hi ken, not our design it came with the mettler bros. kit. must be sturdy enough as it works, 10k cylinder mounted we get 1/8" deflection just before it pops the louver. enough movement that you can see it .
i have some photos posted in our gallery but can't get them to move so i'll try some more after i have a nice hot bath, 7 deg here.

Default hoods

1st hood we louvered taught us to measure twice / louver once. thank goodness it's a ford hood from the scrap pile !

2nd hood took 2 days to get ready for the press, what did we learn this time ? i shot white primer on the underside so i could more accurately layout my lines- definite no no. you want bare metal between your dies, paint gums up and accumulates on the dies.

black, flat black theres no other color like it. now for some primer flames and it's ready to swap meet. 8)
