Default MG rear fender

Hello group,

Could you please tell me how I should go about repairing the fender centre bead in the pictures. (Wargs; MG rear wing)
The bead is triangular, about 1/2" on a side and as you can see, it wont fit in a regular bead roller.

Thanks for your help and best of the season to all. Dave (Wargs)

Hi Dave,
You will probably have to make a repair section large enough to repair the rust, but not so big that it won't go through the bead roller. That area will need stretched a little through the center to achive the proper radius. I think I would try a regular male die in the bead roller (lower roller) and a flat urethane upper roller. It may or may not work. I haven't tried it. Otherwise, you can make some quick UHMW tooling for your bead roller to make any shape you want.

Another alternative is to make male and female dies from hardwood and use some simple chasing techniques.

Hardwood dies in an arbor press will work well too.

Any way you can dream up to get the job done will be fine!!

you could grind the shape you need into some flat bar and pound it into the fender while its on a beater bag,i put a little triangle bead into a helmet i made that way,
use light gentle taps instead of going for a homer,
hope this helps

Wargs,
Take a look at Kenb' s gallery on Aluminum Die & Wood Block construction for some ideas.

You can make a flexible shape pattern of the area and index it after you determine how much you are going to replace. That will give you your blank development. Then turn the fender over and make a bondo buck. If you use duraglass and reinforce it with steel you probably have a form strong enough to use as a die. If not you will at least have a buck to tell you when your home with your shape. From the looks of your fender an area just above or below the damage will give you the shape you need.
