Default Comments

I have just a couple more comments.
#1 Motor missing at high speed.
Solution: Opened the main jet to .038" to compensate for the small exhaust size.
#2 governor
Removed, all
#3 Sluggish on top end. won't wind out 73 tooth now
Solution: Drop to an 80 to 85 tooth gear.
#4 No traction
Solution: Go to a full axil or limited slip differential.
#5 wheels
Solution: I replacer spokes with stainless steel .125" so that should take care of any brakeage problems.
#6 Brake chatter, I used the motorcycle brake drums on both rear wheels. That means that one of the drums are actually running backwards. This allows the wrong shoe to engage the drum first, pulling from the pivot pin causing the chatter. ( MAYBE ) It just something that I have to ponder.

John, how about a complete rear axle from a 4 wheeler? WOuld that give you the limited slip and brakes?

John,

Nice car you made there

Your brake problem can be solved easily

Just shift the brake shoes on the side, where it is turning the wrong way around 8)

The cut out in the brake lining must point towards the rotation direction, otherways the brake drum will "snap" the brake lining and pull it out againgst the brake drum and cause the problem

Default Brakes

Anders
I do have extra brake shoes I will do your suggestion. Thanks for your help. I can't get it out right now to much snow, but it's going to be in the 40's this weekend.
Kerry
I just might work on a home made differential, That would be a cool project.

John,

I thought,.... maybe your differential could be made from the parts of a motorcycle clutch 8)

Split your axle in 2 parts

Place the clutch hub on one end of the axle

Modify the clutch part that holds the plates with the "outside teeth" to fit the other axle end.

Connect the two ends with bolts and springs

Should work.

Hi John
I used a rear end from a MTD lawn tractor for my rear end. The axles are .750 dia, made a sleeve to fit over them to extend them out to 38", to use 1" berings, and hub for the wheels.
