Back in June Wray gave us a project to try. Today I gave it a try.

I traced the door panel to a piece of 3003 H14 .050"

I then tipped the revel lines. One tipped one way, the other line tipped the other way

I tried stretching the revel on a piece of rubber gasket material on my steel bench. It wasn't as satisfactory as I had hoped for.

I then tried stretching the revel area over my small sandbag.

I then put some vertical shape into the panel

Then I planished the panel over a dolly in a vise. I used the spoons I made at last years Metal Meet (FF02)

I tried using a beading roller and a rubber roller to bend the window edge of the door. It worked really slick!

Here is the door with a straight edge to show the curvature

It was a fun project that didn't take much time, but taught me a lot.

Thanks Wray

thanks for moving this Wray. I still don't know what I did wrong. How does one get ones post to "stand alone" like mine is now?

Hi Jim,

You didn't do anything wrong. The fact is you made a great post that deserved it's own forum. The best bet if you don't know where to best place a post is to post it in the general discussion forum.

As this site develops because of the many forums sometimes subjects overlap, so it will be appropriate to place overlapping posts in several forums. That can be the job of the author, but most likely it will be done by the moderators. Each forum eventually will have at least two moderators. We'll get there but it will take time for the members to learn how to use all of the potential of this site.

One of the best festures of this site is how easy it is to edit posts and move them if needed.

Thanks for a great post, I was hoping to revisit making that scale model of the ZM-2 door skin, but helping to build this site, plan for MM03 , take care of my customers, and all the other tasks have sapped my "free time" away.

Hi Wray,
Just so I understand. I could not have posted my own forum to the TUTORIALS area? But I can post forums to the general discussion area? I'm not making a judgement here, just trying to understand the procedure. I did that posting 3 times as the post kept getting wiped out before I could finish it. I finally got it done and the site asked for my log in when I submited the post. I thought I lost it then, but hit my back button after loging in again and found the post. Submited it again and it showed up as if it was a reply to your post. I was (and still am) really confused.
When I posted the bead roller forum, everthing seemed so easy. Don't know what went wrong this time. :?

As I look over the posts and forums, I think I have figured out my own confusion I can post to FORUMS. I cant CREATE forums. Have I got that straight this time? :? I was confusing the terms and where to post.
Thanks for your patience....Jim

Hi Jim,

Only administrators can make new forums. ( that would be David Miller and myself). If anyone sees a need for a new forum I will make it happen. Carey asked for the safety forum recently and I made one right away.

From reading your post about losing info, I think I know what your doing wrong. You need to get the photo links to insert with the img tags and instead of opening another window to do that, you are using only one window and the back button. That can be risky, use two windows, one for the gallery, and one for composing the post.

Did I read the situation right?

Wray

Hi Wray,
You wrote: Did I read the situation right?

No. I did open a new window. There is a good chance I hit the ctrl button instead of the shift button The part about the asking to log in again when I try to submit has me confused. That has happened before.
