hey there
I'm new to this forum I was directed here by a helpful person off another website.. my aim from signing up to this website is to eventually be able to construct my own panel replacements for old / classic cars. I'm currently a 3rd year apprentice panel beater, and with the modern "bog it up" methods I'm really wanting to learn and teach myself the dying fine art of body panel making and lead wiping. well I'll browse through all these more in days to come and when I have a question it looks like you guys are very helpful and prompt in replying so I won't hold back in asking... thanks heaps damien. p.s. my first major project is a 1980 ford escort panel van, it's for my gf so I wanna do a good job of it so when I start stripping it to reveal the horrible parts I'll holler for help - though one itial question can anyone (who is familiar with the vehicle) give me any hints on how to remake outer skins for rear tailgates? thanks heaps |

Hi Damien,
welcome to the group, i think, actually i know that you are in the right place to scoop up your skills. I joined these guys about 4 years ago and what i learned and experienced is unbelievable. Before this i was working panels like you do now and tought i new a lot about it but i was wrong. All the credit goes to the guys that sharing there knowledge without hassetating,so don't be affraid to ask. There is nothing like a dumb question. It only is dumb NOT to ask. Pedalcar Ben.

Hello XPANEL, Welcome to Metalmeet. It's always easier to talk to someone if you know their name. Sound as if you are dedicated to learning metalworking.
Where are you apprenticed? What kind of tools and equipment do you have at your disposal. What kind of work is done at your job. Restoration, fabrication, or collision repair? If you can post a photo of your project van, a better answer will be possible. Great having you here, and post often............john
