Steve you have pretty much answered your own questions. You can get most of the materials at any large hardware or home improvement store. If they don't have copper roof flashing, go the a roofing company and ask to buy some of their "drops" . This is the small pieces they have left over after a job.......john

Okay I will check there first. Thanks!!
I haven't called there yet about the copper roof flashing, but I wanted to see what it looked like, so I went to lowes.com (american hardware store) and found the copper roof flashing there...it's not all copper there is something with it. In one I think there is a thin layer of wood or something. Also, I think it said it was 4 oz. compared to 16oz. that I want. Someone want to point me in the right direction? |

I know that you said you found copper flashing at Lowe's. I was in a Lowe's this afternoon looking for copper flashing for this very project and found only aluminum. I was able to make all the "parts" for this rose, but can't get 'em stuck together (solder thing isn't working out, but that's in a whole 'nother post).
Just pick up the phone and start calling roofers or contractors building supply places. Justin |

I might just order some off of lowcostmetals, because I need the UHMW off of there too. Maybe a litle bit more expensive, but then I know that I got the right stuff....

I found the same 4 oz flashing at my local Lowes. I ended up by galvanized steel flashing. PITA to form. Mad a beater bag, @^$# steel cut it, should have used heavier material for the bag. As of now, I am forming all the petals using a hammer and dolly. Crude, but it works, and lets me see how themetal moves. As an added bonus, it aggravates the wife.
As soon as I can figure out how to get the camera to work, I'll postpics. Joe 5star |

A scrap of leather on the working surface of the bag is cheap insurance against cuts when you working near the edges of metal.

The aluminum rose is coming along. I finally found some solder and flux that'll stick the stupid thing together. Next question is on the copper rose posts I see that the petals start from the bottom and follow the contour of the "bud" before turning back out at the very top edge.
When I try to form the edges of the aluminum back it starts creasing on me. Is there something else that I can try or is that just because it's aluminum and not copper? fyi I am annealing the aluminum flashing before I use it... Thanks, Justin |
