$6.99 flat shipping would get it here, then I could repost it to you.. Not sure what that'd cost.. I sent something to a guy on HSM there and it was about $15.. Looks like they no longer list the replacement blades. When you buy the $39.99 shear it comes with extras thou. (this is 120 volts thou) Dan says they are "great".. he has a table mount made for his to flip it upside down and hold the metal, not the shear. (I've not bought one of these) I have a milk crate of name brand shears with broken blades.. The blades for the major manufacturer brands are just "silly" priced. The only "tool steel" I have here is a six foot bar, I tried to cut it with a portaband saw, it just squealed as it peeled teeth off the blade.

Can anyone give me these Pullmax cutting tool grind angles please?
The top picture is the tooling for straight shearing, the lower picture the tooling for cutting curves. |

Also, do you use a guide table to suport the work with these tools? I can't see how that would work out in relation to the height you set it to and how close either side it would come to the tooling?

You set the support to be even with the lower blade. The angle is pretty shallow and the top punch only enters the material about 1/3 of it's thickness. I have the angles and instructions at home unfortunately I'm about 10 days away from there right now. Meant to post it before I left but got busy. If you haven't found the angles by July 4 I'll post them.

Don Houseman gave a demo on the pullmax at Santa Cruz . If I remember it is either 11 or 13 degrees that is both directions

Rick, it was 13 degrees, both directions.
Kent White adjusts his cutters close enough that they will cut paper.

I want to thank everyone who replied on various formats to these questions, I'll get grinding today, thanks.
Thought I'd try this setup yesterday, reground an old lathe tool as a bottom tool to take off the rake where it butts up against the top tool and used the tool I'd made for louvre cutting as a top. I took a guess at the bottom tool angles based on the Pullmax pictures and wondered if the top tool shape would provide the ability to do straight cuts and curves, I can't fault the results, cuts cleanly and doesn't mark up the sheet running it through by hand without a suport table, I have to stroke right through the sheet as my machine hasn't the oophh of a Pullmax so i'm not sure wether a table will cause more problems, it will be interesting to grind up the correct profiles for a comparison. Biggest problem I had was the machine throwing it's belt under load, I had suceeded in knocking it over (mark 1 wheels) and it landed with the corner of the bench vise on the main drive pully which I haven't straightened out properly yet as I'm still setting the whole thing up, landed a belt spot on evenly sitting up on a roof beam, try doing that twice! |
