I bought one of these to solve some issues here with a ailing P4 based surveillance system. Seems I have worked on it continuously since 2005
http://www.ebay.com/itm/140446384306...84.m1439.l2649 Linux os burned on board, has sata hard drive to "store video on". The one I bought has 4 camera in put but you can get up to 16 (lot more money). It states 120 fps.. I'll let you know if that is a salesman claim. Usb port to burn to external cdrom, or ? one of these set up at a meet would give a open window to the world and perhaps "stimulate" more following and people attending the forum and meets. It is no longer complicated.

That's a great little box of tricks. Whether you could stream it directly to the internet or not I don't know. But if anyone had the time to edit the various camera angles then you could easily youtube the finished product.
As for encouraging people to go to the meets - I don't know why that is necessary! This forum seems to do a fantastic job as it is. I personnaly would have gone to the viking meet this year if it hadn't been for other stuff that has to come first...

All you need to stream it is a internet connection, you can even use a dynamic host.. there are re-direction sites.. you set your router up to ping it with identity, and it keeps a file there to send all traffic to your site..
now the number of allowed connections? it takes cpu time to serve up the stream.. perhaps posting "snapshots" on a site would be the way to go.. the bandwidth needed would disallow most non commercial sites. Someone who can view the video and "choose" snap shots.. well nobody would have to go around snapping with a camera. Us home bodies....... well.. I'd buy a meet dvd if sold.. you could ebay them I am sure. At the meets held in people's shops.. well.. I sure have found my surveillance system handy a couple of times.

took 30 minutes to set up, replace the other system.. and that was including the 1tb hard drive install. it's tiny, about 11" wide, about eight or so deep, two inches tall.. ran right out of the box.
Playing with the motion detection now. it emails photos to a phone. (ground hogs, pitt bulldogs, birds and squirrels)

And maybe a shopping list of the components that are needed, so we could put a cost to the whole system.

Hi Guys.
4 high quality cameras 4 power supplies for cameras 4 bnc + power cables 150'?? this unit, hard drive, or purchased in it. cat5 internet cable to where-ever it links in. router or server computer set up. someone to string-tie up the cable.. mount cameras.. (beam clamps) I bought to set up the system here.. cameras, I got some good chinese ones for 5 for $100. (outdoors case w-mount 1/3rd" sony) cables, that include the power circuit, shipping is more than the cable.. I think I paid $15 each for 150' cables. ($90 with shipping) You need to either get individual power supplies for the cameras, or build a supply box.. This unit was "minus" the hard drive.($109 for a sata 1 tb one from office depot). Only took a few minutes to install. Monitor.. any vga will do. Need a hosting internet link, a wireless router if your want to use them. cable ties... some way to string the cable up into the ceiling.. I have a gadspot IP camera I can ship to TT if you want to start out simple. That is another option, use them and a router and cat5 cables.. thou more complicated to me. Each camera can be it's own server to several people.. but no way of burning a dvd. Anyway I can help? My foot looks like a rotten tomato still, I'm house bound with a gout flair up. There are some really talented guys here.. you ever see Charley Davidson's youtube vids, or others.. seems artists that dabble in metal shaping have more than one talent. (don't ask me to sing or I'll clear the room) I sped up the video on this unit to 20frames a second.. you can not see any stutter.. THE HP lap-crap-top has some kinda directX issue.. it runs but will not download the video files. you can view online thou. it crashes out with a directx error.

I don't know a thing about this stuff but I'd love to have something like this at my place.
Can you give us some ebay links to the other items you listed that we would need?

Larry.. right now I'd have to swap to a "heel and toe" shifter and maybe even then put a "stick on it". I've still got a rotten foot.. never had a case go this long before. Plus soaking up "metalshaping" is a good thing, but there are a few metalshapers I'd just as soon stay clear of too due to their personality traits. (I am not perfect either) There are quite a few metalshapers I consider right up there with "batman and superman" and I'd like to meet them, but I would not not know to say I guess.. (gee nice cape superman) Getting a nugget of knowledge from one of them I would put up there with Picasso or DaVinci teaching me to paint.
I discovered, I like this dvr. it is like a "subsystem" that does not have all the overhead "windows" has running.. It is simpler without some of the features the other system has.. ie, quick search. That is made into the backup file viewer, not in the Linux operating system. It is "smart phone" ready, able to email pictures to phones. (my cell phone just makes calls) Streaming to the wide world web, well with a dsl like mine, (1) you use "bridge mode" in the dsl modem, that time select router to PPPoE, and the dsl username & password must be put into the "router" distributing to all the computers. THE router then "signs onto your isp" directly. You should have the router firewall enabled. (2) Add a "port forward" to all internet requests" to the (gaming setup like a xbox) and a sub address to identify requests.. ie port forward for cameras is normally ":80" but can be anything you set it to further hide it from hackers. (3) To then set up the address in the DVR, If you have a random generated IP address (normal) use a DNS hosting site to point to it.. with this unit it is free, create a web identifier "hostname unique to you".. and just type that is and from "anywhere" in the world you can view your cameras and history, motion (movement) events or just see if the brother in law cut your grass while you are at a meet. Hackers getting past the firewalls? they must have the passwords and usernames to the dvr, plus being bottled to the "dvr" with the "burned on chip" operating system they have limited things they can do and soon get bored. No longer are they inside a nice familiar WINDOWS OS machine they can add their own software to and "reboot" it to have their fun. All this sounds a lot more complicated than it actually is.. I used to go get the neighbors kids and "teach them" how to do things on the computer and then let them "train the adults". IT IS JUST A NEW THING, not complicated. A person still has to get past that "I Can't" thinking.. just like learning metalshaping. (or anything else new) "Can't" is a four letter word. I am too stubborn to ever say that about anything.
