Default foot operated shrinking dies

hello all

attached are a few pictures of a recent homemade shrinking machine. like many others my desire to learn and to make do with what i have is bigger than my current financial status.

the male die is made of a 1" section of tubing, 16 gauge steel, and an old bolt ground down to make the pyramid section.

the female die was made with the same 1" section of tubing, the piece of 16 gauge steel was heated until red hot and forced over the male die, creating the pocket.

this machine allows you to do the final shrinking of the the tuck by hand for those that enjoy shrinking with a nice oak mallet. it leaves the metal free of those nasty teeth mark found on some of the current hand shrinkers.

the finishing touches were made with a brazing rod. of course a clean up and paint job may be in the future.

many have inspired me, and may this too inspire others.

Hi.

What side of NC are ya on? I ride up that way now and then. Love them Mountains.

See Anders tucking "pliers" here on MM. I see them best made with bolt cutter handles. Save half the fab work and time.

My rolling tucker.. has dual wheels at a angle to "draw the metal in".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyTl10E_tSs Plan was to have powered metal rolls to crush, above the tucking rolls.

The neatest one I have saw on youtube yet was a english guy with a treadle machine, had small rollers pulling a tuck with each step. With rollers, it does not stretch as much as you put the tuck into the metal.
