how can i do this?
i would like some instruction on how i could go about hand forming lovers in a hood. i appreciate your reponses

Use a Whizzer Wheel to cut the slit, and make a wooden punch and die to bump in the shape. It's pretty simple....
But if you are going to do a lot of them, and in an intricate pattern I would suggest finding someone with a louver press. Also check the albums for a pic of Stan Lobitz's Louver machine that is like the one that Hiram Hillegas made. it would be pretty simple to make and works great on a flat panel. But it wouldn't work well on a curved hood.

louvers
Bill,
My Hillegass louver setup was designed to do the radius on a midget or sprint hood. My original setup that I made in the 50`s only did semi flat hoods like 50 fords and merc`s. I mad new dies and can do radius`s. I can copy any louver in 15 minutes, thats all it takes me to copy the male shape die.

Here's some pics to help with the slit and wood die method. Theycame from a Morgan website but I can not find it again. I did save the web page and can email it to anyone who'd like text to go with the images.
As mentioned earlier, mark out your louvers, cut the slits, place the slit at the open end of the female die and use the wooden punch to form your louver(s). I always worried with the hammer "press" that I'd wind up with a lot of louvers and one or two large dents where I'd missed :o Cheers, Rob
