Hey everyone I was wondering if anyone on here could tell me if the northridge planishing hammers are any good or not, or if anyone had had any expierence with them? I was looking at buying the 40" floor model they sell.
Thanks, Matt |

I have a 26". It works OK, but is held together with set screws so they tended to rattle out pretty frequently until I really cranked them down and got them all loctited. Set screws and 4,000 hits per minute really don't go together. Also, the lower anvil holder was a piece of tube that they welded a plug into for the lower adjuster to push against. Predictably, a plug was eventually hammered out. I replaced it with a cap that I welded in and even that eventually shook itself apart. I ended up machining a piece of solid so there were no caps or plugs or anything and that seems to have held up. The frame itself is pretty flexible. It doesn't seem to matter too much with a planishing hammer, but when I'm really leaning into a piece, I'd like to have a little less give.
Sooooo, OK, not great for the 26. |

I'm not sure what brand the motor is. I'd have to remove my threadlocked set screws and i finally got them to stop backing out. That part actually works fine.
