I picked up this stomp shear about 2 years ago. It is a Wysong (american made) and works great. I was told it is a mid 70's model but I don't know for sure. The only problem I have had is my back can get rear bad after doing a lot of 48" wide pieces in 19g. So I was talking to a friend of mine about converting over to hydraulic and one day he called me with an older hydro hose crimper that he got at work because they were getting rid of it for a new model. It had a self contained pump and tank and ran a 4"D ram with an adjustable stop/return that turns the pump off and lets the ram return to the starting point. So I bought (2) 1"x6" rams and some fittings and this is what I ended up with. It is about 3 sec. per stroke and on 19g works like butter, for 16g I need a pump with more PSI or need to figure out how I can increase this one.

Nice job, I did the same thing to mine using an old snow plow lift cylinder and pump. Mine isn't as fast as yours though.

Kevin,
Here are some pics of mine, http://www.metalmeet.com/forum/album.php?albumid=278 I did not do the conversion, but it has been working great! it doesn't care if it is 19 or 16ga, cuts the same, motor is a 3hp.

Yep same machine, mine is # F01-2489 and yours is #F01-1826. Both 1652's
Do you know what years yours is? My Whitney Combination box pan break is a year 1973 so I have no idea on the shear.
My rams are 1" and yours look to be about 5/8". I wonder how much this plays into the power on 16g?

More power
1) you can increase the PSI
2) larger cylinder bore ( pi x r2 ) :D

Thanks rick. For now it is good but I will keep my eyes open for more power.
Here is my combo box pan break for the heck or it.

Hi Kevin,
The front panels lend a nice touch to the conversion. http://www.metalmeet.com/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif
