I just started oxy welding. I LOVE IT!! Love the control compared to mig. Love the ability to hammerweld the bead and the fact it is way easier to grind and finish than mig weld. What have I been missing all these years??
I am currently using a Victor J-28 torch with a 00 tip. I like this type of welding so much I am seriously considering getting a Meco torch. Are you Meco owners happy with yours?? Also, Are the tips sized the same as Victor?, I am using a 00 for 18ga. would I use a 00 Meco tip also? Thanks, Todd

I love my meco torch,,If you go this route by all means also get the ultra light hoses this combo is very light small and comfortable you will never go back.

I dont remember the tip sizes and gauge metal uses Im sure someone else will know for sure.

I have been using the Meco for years. I love it. With the lightweight hoses. Be sure and buy your tips from Kent White. He has them specially made the old way. Since Victor bought Meco they have started making lower quality tips. I find the flame from his tips a great improvement over my old Victor torch.

This tip chart is from Kent's web site.

I also love my Meco with the ultra light hose kit. You will need the longer neck though if you go above a #3 tip as the body gets quite warm with the flame dialled-up.

The TM 2000 lens for aluminium is brilliant - no orange flare and you can see exactly what's going on.

Price? Good value for money, IMO.

Here is something to consider.

I put an ultra light hose kit on my medium duty Victor torch. Love it. The torch is big enough to hang on to and easier to manuver (I don't fight the weight of the hoses). My hand is far enough from the flame to stay cool. The flame coming out of the tip is no different than the tiny torches, because you will have to use a tip sized to your work no matter what you have for a torch.

i have a meco and all the goodies I purchased after attending Kent Whites school. I have hardly used it. If you call I can tell you all about it, and maybe you would want to buy it. It works great! Mike 541-840-1471

I have used my Meco torch purchased in 1964 and have yet to have to replace a torch or regulator part. I bought tanks with a 99 year lease, so I have a few years left.
Somehow I have misplaced the #1 tip and have not found a source for replacement.
From this post, I assume that Kent White sells tips. Thanks for the tip (pun).

The Meco is all metal. There is no insulation on the body as with some larger torches.

In Kent's classes he has some buckets of water set out for use when annealing aluminum. He told us that if the torch was getting too hot to hold comfortably just shut it off and dunk it in the water. That didn't seem to be a problem for the torch, and it does cool it right down.

Be the first in your garage to have a water-cooled O/A torch! :)

cheers,
Michael

No, not the beer variety - for the Meco. Kent offers them for use with larger tips, so that you can get your hand back further.

As I said earlier, I have a bunch of goodies with the torch I have. I actually have the short and long torches and maybe 6 tips and the cool billet holder and wrench set in purple. I also have the mini regulators, and mini hoses he offers. I am willing to sell it for 1/2 the price in the catalog. I find myself reverting to the nice Dynasty 350 I have when I need to mend two pieces of aluminum. I would highly recommend attending Kent's school as he has great wisdom to share, and this is a wonderful way to weld! :)
