Its that time again to start planing for the spring event . The dates are May 3-6 and for those that want to come early let me know as there will be a few shop tours we will need to plan for . This year so far of the people I have talked with Kerry P .,Johnny A. , Joe H. Steve H. Roger and Uncle Johnny have said they were coming so there should be a little less chaos this year . I also ordered the Tornado delete for this one so our southern guests can hang a little longer .

It also looks like Per (metalmansweeden) Is going to make it over if all goes well . Any more of you guys from out of country or for that matter way out of town , I extend an invitation to you also and can usually find a spot to put you up . PM if interested .

I am also looking to put together a group to go down to Rons the following weekend so let me know and can shave off travel costs .

I can't wait for this springs meet. Last fall was awesome. I was able to build many of the tools I needed to get started. This spring I hope to show up with my buck made and ready to start actually shaping. The project is the building of a belly tank speedster.... Just in stroller size. Just like my sons stroller we made about five-six years ago.

Mike I have no problem arrainging a shop tour of a couple of prominent shops in town if there is enough people interested .

You have named a few that I would have in mind and dont think it would be a problem with any of them given enough heads up . You havnt lived until you get some of Lees treats when going to her and Terrys place . While Terry is over showing something on the Pulmax , just as likely Lee is showing off something elsewhere . She is a pretty sharp gal and is very knowlegable about what goes on in the shop .

Barry larsen ,Jim Petrokowski and Don Groff are a few others I have in mind .So if given enough interest I could put something together .

No I wasn't at the meet last year. Years ago someone made a stroller similar to yours. I just wondered if it was him re-joining MM.

We haven't had much snow to speak of this winter, so the thaw isn't going to be an issue. But you never know what the spring rains may bring.

If you can see tracks in the grass, ask where else you should park.

I installed a cage wall and plastic seat once when I worked in Lake Crystal for their K9 unit.

Got to dig around the car for awhile. You wouldn't believe how much grass is stored in the trunk of those cars for "training"

Throw a name at us so we dont have to deal with hey you.It would be fine if you bring along your fender as there would be any number of guys that could help you along .Show us a pic of what you have going on .
As far as a charge I dont have any but because of the expense of putting on an event and the fact that there is food and refreshments we look for a good faith donation . The best way to explain would be what would you expect to pay for an educational video and is what you come away from an event like this worth that . I hope you would say Hell yes and more . Hi Dan. Overland9096 is really Lynn Miller. I live in Waseca, Mn. I have collected cars and JD tractors for arolund 30 years. I have mainly worked on the tractor sheetmetal which is quite simple. I have started a project on my 1918 Overland touring car that has long gentle curves with dents. I worked as a prototype / tool and die maker for 15 years so the machining of metal is no secret. Talk to you soon. Lynn

Per (pronounced PEAR) and I got in this afternoon. Two local guys (Randy and Ben) came over and once we got unloaded the fun started immediately.

Per decided to make a viking helmet.

One horn side down, 3 more to go.

I brought Dan the components to make doming dies and I used his lathe to drill and tap some holes and then Dan and I worked on fitting his new quick change adapters to his Eckold.

Tomorrow we're going to reorganize the shop a bit and make a list of what needs to be done to a couple of Dan's projects.

It was really great to meet Per in person. He's a talented guy and a lot of fun.

Sunday started beautiful and ended rainy. I mowed the grass on LouAnn's tractor then we started moving stuff. Photos are in the order taken so things were happening all day off and on.

Per was working on his helmet

Check out Per's glasses. How neat is that!

Neat little rotary cutter from a fabric place and the mat you use it on. Think pizza cutter. VERY sharp and follows a line beautifully. I'll be getting this setup. My big hands aren't made for sissors.

Moving time. Jesse Larson came down and helped. He's steering Dan's Pantera while Dan pulls it with LouAnn's tractor. (Don't call it Dan's tractor around LouAnn)

Randy did some weedeating around the things I couldn't mow

The fuzzy alarm system supervised.

Dan's neighbor pulled a redneck grader over the driveway to smooth it out.

Jesse couldn't deal with Peacock (Dan and LouAnn have Peacocks) crap on the Pantera so he washed it. We got a nice space opened up in the lower metal barn. We'll hold most the demos down there away from all the noise.

Last year, Randy was just building his Ewheel (Imperial clone...he's got good taste). He's made it into a neat workstation. This is a cutting table made from a Harbor Freight electric shear. Really works nice too. I've been meaning to do this for years but after using his, it's definitely on my list. This cutter is one of the few "good" metalshaping that HF carries. About $30 and work great!

You can tell that Dan Shady wasn't around. These are my pants after kneeling on the floor for a minute. I felt right at home.

I managed to pull a KFU and trip Dan's mechanical PEXTO shear before it got up to speed. Don't do that! You have to pull the cover and rotate it by hand until the mechanical components release. Really, seriously, for real...don't do that!

Dan's Eckold was missing a guard on the adjuster and I decided to build something to cover the moving and electrical bits. Nothing special but Dan wanted it in steel instead of aluminum so it took twice as long and weights 10 times as much and isn't as pretty but the customer is always right......

Started by shearing a 5" wide piece and wrapping it around the area.

Then I marked the face to fit and sheared it out.

Meanwhile Randy and Per were using Dan's bead roller with roundover dies on the horns.

This is the footswitch on the bead roller. Looks like a plain off/on switch but Dan mounted some microswitches and a swivel so you bump it to one side for forward and the other for reverse.... hands free.

Using Dan's P21 with round over dies, I did a half roll on the side AND the top of the cover. Dan assured me he'd show me how to make them fit perfectly.

Randy was wheeling on his horns using a convex upper...actually one of my 6" anvils for Viagra but because it has a 3/4" axle I also use them for uppers when I want to do reverses and small stuff.

I did a little tuning up on a TEE dolly

After we cleared off a space on the welding Table, Dan showed me how to weld up the cover. The approach is best done with two folks. Holding the panels in position, tack (MIG) together. Lifting, tapping right on the seam to bring them together.

Per made an embossed cover for Dan's air whistle, Work of art!

Randy was making progress on the horns.

By now it was 11pm and raining. Tomorrow it's more cleaning, organizing, and time to work on the COE.

I picked up a slide and a couple bearings I plan on putting to good use. Always a pleasure visiting with Cass. Then like Per said we spent time on some of his many projects. WOW!!! Thanks Cass!!!

Then to top it off the visit to Jim Petrykowski´s shop!! Jim is a very talanted man who has done fab work on race cars, aircraft and industrial machinery for about 40 years. He made us right at home, let us look around and served us sub sandwiches. He had so much stuff in his car shop it blew me away. Thanks so much Jim!!!

I could be wrong, but this meet (gathering ) should be changed from a regional title to international.

Some numbers on it:

We had 4 countries represented at Dan and Lu's. USA, Canada, Sweden, and Dixie.

11 states and 1 providence. Mn, Mo, Il, Sd, Al, Mi, Nd, Wi, Ks, Ia, Ne, and Ont.

I only kept track of Saturdays meal. Lu served 54 plates of sandwichs and cheesy potatoes. Had to be around the same or more on Friday. Great job Lu!!!

Thanks to everyone who volunteered to do a seminar. Per, Kerry, Pat, Steve, Jim, Cass, Dan, Johnny, and Roger. They all did a great job!!

And the attendees... You were all great, courteous, and willing to help and assist anyone in need. My handy dandy notebook shows 73 signatures and I KNOW a bunch of you didn't sign in.

Hopefully we did a good job and everyone had a great time learning some new skills or refining your existing talents. See you all in October!
