Here are some photy's of the Austin A35 I put in a ditch and it's on going recovery:).
Most of the work has been done by Hairy-Neil, with some assistance by myself, it's Neil who is the guilty one for getting me into the metal beating and showing me some of the tricks. I have always had a go but never really knew what was what, now searching around this forum and finding new ideas daily.
I have to many photy's to put on in one go, so I will put them up in batches as and when.

The Ditch:oops:

The damage:oops:

This now looks worse than it was but it's due to us using the lorry winch to assist in pulling some of the damage out.

Wings off time and cut out the bad:)

The other side had some rust issues so Neil said we best deal with that at the same time:)

Thank you Anders for your interest, it's a pleasure to share:)

Even more metal removed, must admit I was just a little worried at this point and it gets worse:cry:

This shot shows where an old, bad repair, was removed and new metal let in by Neil to put it back to original and not at all to do with the accident:)

More new metal:)

A little bit of re-cycling, we don't believe in waste:)
http://i798.photobucket.com/albums/yy262/rhode-island-red/A35%20repairs/WXCrepairs006.jpg

More new metal, but this was the good side:eek:not as good as I originally thought.

Another rust issue Neil sorted whilst stripped down:)

During the proceedings it was noticed that the rear of the bonnet surround panel was low on one side, Neil attempted to correct it and in the process a great lump of body filler about half inch thick cracked out. It now appears that it was caught in the storms of 1987 that were quite bad in the south of England, we think it was possibly hit accross the bonnet by a falling tree, I have quite extensive records for the car and have a body repair bill from that time.

Drastic measures were called for.
http://i798.photobucket.com/albums/yy262/rhode-island-red/A35%20Crunch/bits052.jpg

A profile gauge was made from another car.(I have a few but Neil has over 20)

http://i798.photobucket.com/albums/yy262/rhode-island-red/A35%20Crunch/bits056.jpg

Once in the correct position the offending bit was cut out and the decision was made to put in a new piece.

This is the test fit of the panel, not sure what I said;)

.

Thing is, this car will be so much better and not so much rust, so really the ditch has helped it survive, the four pints of beer also had an intervening affect:)

Super job you two are doing http://www.metalmeet.com/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif. I need to get as good as Neil when grinding the proud off of a weld. You gave me something to shoot for.

What is the green car in the background of the picture showing Neil spot welding?

It would help us a lot if you would step back a little for an overall picture first of each added part or area so we can tell what is going on.
Then if you think we need a detailed close up we will know where and what it is of.

It's a Bond Ranger. A three wheeled, glassfibre microcar from the 1960s. One of just a handful of survivors known to the Bond Club.

This is the best photo I can do I'm afraid (I'm sure Paul's got more), when we got a ride on a tow truck after a high speed (for the car) front wheel blowout

OK, all taken aboard on the last post, lets let the new year happen and the booze subside, hangover gone and I will answer your question.

To pass on my experience would be very good for me and for everyone who is interested, if it helps folk out there thats even better:).

Thanks to all from a "Newbie" for your support and interest, this is a great forum for all to learn from and enjoy.

"HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL" and I hope you all get what you wish for in life, your friend, Paul

In the picture with the hatch up (I've figured that out now :)) the car looked like a real low height car. It is cute though.

Hello Jim,

It is quite low to the ground and quite frightening to follow, I have never driven the thing and really have no desire to do so, interesting vehicle though it is.

I am sure Neil will tell more:)
