I need to organize & centralize tools & processes rather than having to drag everything out of a tool box, use it, then put it back in storage. I wanted a table or "station" that I could use for dollies, "t" dollies, Pexto style tooling, shop made stake tools, use slappers, mallets, bags, etc on in one place. Use for shaping & storing, more importantly giving me a project of my own to complete in a small amount of time (under 40 hours) in the evenings & on weekends to help keep me sane.... or as close to it as possible for one such as myself

So I did my research on what my needs are & what do I need to incorporate now so that I do not outgrow this equipment. What people on the forums have made, whats available for sale retail, viewed online, etc.

Then used all that info to make a metal shaping station for the shop. Nothing I've done here is something new or different than what others befor me have done, this is just my take on it.

Additionally if you see an idea on here that looks like an idea you shared, thank you for the help, because of the forums I have found many great ideas that I would not have incorporated into the station.

Enough chit chat, here's what I got done this weekend!

After sketching out the table top & hammer/tool tray in cad I burned out the plates for the project with our cnc plasma cutter. Top table is cut from 3/8" this steel & hammer/tool holder with trays is made from 11ga steel. I will mount this in the center on a piece of 3"x3"x.250" square tube for a nice stiff frame.

Here I needed to make some tools to help with the fit up of the storage pockets that go in the hammer/tool holder. Problem was wrapping the 11ga around the tight radius & keeping it 90° with the material I was tacking it to top & bottom. these nifty little "hand brakes" enabled me to make slight bends to make the shape I needed for the project.

Hoping I can finish this up over the next few weekends, but for now thats all I have done to this point.

Josh, it looks good, I like it. Post some pictures when you get it welded up.

I'm wanting to build a new one. You've posted a compilation and some good ideas of your own. Which I am going to use a few of next time.

Base.. (I've built a dozen of these things now..) best one so far was a big truck brake drum, bolts sticking up through top, post bolted to it so it can travel, and poured full of sacrete concrete. Then it's like one of them lil dolls you had as a kid with the round bottom, when you punched it, it rolled back upright.

Here trouble is.. scrap has hit new high prices and all the brake drums have disappeared.
Anybody got a cheap-strong solution? I was thinking garbage can full of concrete, or a form.. but.. I still like the heavy steel wrap and ugly things don't do well for inspiration. I got a slip roll but it won't do thick metal.

"or a form" ....

In my old shop I had a temporary spare still mounted on the wheel, but sidewalls drilled from the top with a holesaw and filled with concrete. Was about right for the small grinder I had on it, bigger tools would need bigger tire/wheel. Countless diameter/width combos out there. Could even stack them to keep footprint small.

Hope this helps,

Mark

One here has a removable "sand bag" holder on top, welded to a 2x2 slug to drop in vertical.
Problem is, sometimes on Motorcycle fenders you want a narrow post and dolly.. the sides drape over it. This removes for dropping in fender paint stand holders, etc..

It's a disc harrow off a piece of farm equipment. A MM idea.. Belt sander is now ballast for the overhead helve frame.. hangs there on the right holding that bad boy down with mass.

A utility strap bender, post dolly.. top removes for socket to bolt on. Roll-bender. ETC..
Mostly a HSM forum compilation of ideas.

Assembled before powder coat by Pat.

I am sure I have pictures of some of the others? or maybe not.. I run wide open most the time.

I'm off to bed. Wish you lived next door, your ideas and layout-fabrication looks excellent..
