Hi Guys
Peter here from Melbourne Australia.
I have been reading the forum for a long time and thought I better say hello and post some pictures of my project
Here it is sitting waiting for some attention
I designed the chassis in AutoCAD and had all the pieces laser cut

I raised the front rails to accommodate the jag front end so that it will sit pretty low I also kicked the rear up and widened it by 5" per side at the rear

Here are some pictures of the back section done in the same way with laser cut spacers etc and also a laser cut rear crossmember

Nice work Peter,

I have two questions. I see that there small ears on the upper rail section. Are they strictly for setting elevation or we they notched in?

Secondly, I see that you MIG welded the rails . The welds look very nice. Most often, I see people creating boxed rails and TIG welding them. Is it personal preference or is there a technical reason for one over the other? My experience has only ever been with 4130 tubular framing so the boxed frame is a slight mystery to me.

Hi Guys and Gals
Thanx for the kind words and the welcome to the site
Rick in answer to your question the tabs are also on the top and bottom plates so that they clamp against each other so neither part can pass past the other which allows for a nice corner fillet weld. The reason for the mig welding was due to the fact that I didn't have a tig available to use :(
Here are a few more photos that I couldn't upload last night:confused:

I have tacked the front and rear ends in place and sat the body back on to check the stance at ride height and make sure everything looks right, the front of the running boards are 5" from the ground and the rear are 6"

The front fenders are 1 ton versions with larger wheel archs but I will be using slightly modified 1/2 ton ones in the build
Here are a few more pictures with the front and rear ends just clamped and tacked in place

Here is a block and gear box sitting in place while I design the engine and gear box mounts and
The motor of choice is a Chev 454 with a Muncie M22 behind it with a 9” rear
