Hello, I am new to the autobody business. Today I did my second door skin, I was wondering how to install a new door skin without getting so many dents on the skin itself as your hammering the lip over onto the frame of the door.

I'm trying to find the cleanest way to install a door skin. Any help is appreciated.

Thanx Jlruss, today I put the door on the car with the new door skin install. (before I read this) and the door was off..

I straighten out the door before i remove the skin (while still on the car) and I marked exactly where the old skin was. The skin itself wasnt dented that bad. No bondo/plastic was needed to fix the panel.

That seems to be my problem, I put the skin on pretty good without denting the skin to much but making the door line up between fender and door or fender and quarter just doesn't work out. I understand this is my second door skin but Im trying to learn from my mistakes and be the a good bodyman and metal worker/bumper.

It is usually better to put the door back on, then adjust the skin before welding. After you weld the skin to the door frame, there isn't any adjustment other than with the hinges.
