Hi (I hope this is an ok place to post this request for machine purchase advice...)

I've got an opportunity to buy a used rig from an aquantance who hasn't set an asking price.
When I look at $ for new Lincoln Precision TIG 225 I lose all hope.
Should I be offering $600, $800, even $1000 for this or will I just be offending the guy?
It would be for hobby/motorcycle building/occasional Aluminum - not for business really.
Any insight is very appreciated.
Thanks, JC

Justin: First off, do some homework and see what the going rate for a BNIB unit of the same model (with the SAME options) would cost, then decide what the discount from that should be based off age, condition, amount of use it has seen , etc.....

A bit of cruising craigslist will tell you what other people are asking (but not what they are settling for).......
It can be a bit deceiving, as if you ad the running gear, a different torch, hand amptrol, etc all these play into the initial purchase price, so it's not always an apples to apples comparison.......

ditto what James said, ebay completed auctions can give you and idea. coolers, extra long torches, tanks can add 100s of dollars to the value of the machine. read about what other say. http://weldingweb.com/login.php
