(1) GEORGIA CUSTOM VEHICLE LAW:
In Georgia They have now made a "class" legaling vehicles built with "used" and new kit parts by owners. Forms are available on the DOR site.
I don't know how much I caused of this, but I was loud and vocal to the tax commisioners office locally. My Honda Civic, now a UTE has sat waiting so long the fuel pump is stuck. Requirement: must have Fabricated body panels made by owner or purchased, document with photos.. And. You are responsible for pollution standards and saftey. If it falls apart on the highway, you are to blame.

(2) GEORGIA HOMEBUILT TRAILER LAW:
THEY TOLD ME, I could not tag a homebuilt trailer. The girls in the tag office.. I tried twice showing them the papers printed off the GDOR site.. they refused to listen to me, (after all, I am not pretty nor well spoken) a USPS Certified letter to the Tax commisioner (of which by law he must respond in 7 working days).. got me a apology and a sit down with him.. and a tag and serial plate for my trailer.

(addeum)
I wonder if I need to do that on the Civic.. I'll try with the one biker girl who shows me her boobies there. (and looks me in the eyes and smiles) Hell.. I didn't mind, and told the wife about it, it was funny till I noticed the $30 fine for a trailer valued $40.. My wife is still laughing about that.. (I was looking at boobies instead of my money)

(3) Georgia OLD vehicle (non Title) sale to Title required state.. Have sold them all over the country now. HOW TO.. get a tag on the vehicle you wish to transfer to another state. THe registration is the "title" app in another state, the georgia certified tag reciept is accepted by every state of the UNION with a "proper bill of sale" that is notarized and signed and all lines completed. You can swap that for a title, your state may not want to, they may tell you they can't.. but by law of reciprocation they must. I normally enclose a letter from the Local tax commisioner explaining Georgia Law and titles required in our state and how it reciprocates..

Your state may vary.. they will lie to you to keep from doing something they have not done before..

Not sure in Texas.. only sold them here, sent them there.

Here, you must get a t22b, vin verification form filled out by a law enforcement official, meaning cop, who runs the serial number.. it is has "illegal" past issues, they may take it and hold it.. I was sweating bullets when I did the 57gmc cause I suspect it belonged to a moonshiner..

Then, a bill of sale, and the t22b you can buy a tag... transfer tag registration to another state and away you go.

The 41 here, does not have a readable vin.. no clue what to do there other than use the frame vin off the donor.. I may try to clean the vin plate one more time, thou it has epoxy on it. When I scrubbed the 48 F1 plate, I washed off most the build information on it. Left only the numerical stamp.

Does it have a valid vin plate still attached?
Also.. in Ga.. you can "post a cash bond" for a vehicle and get a tag.. if it is stolen, or money owed, you forfiet the bond.. otherwise after so long, it reverts back to a normal title and you can do what-ever with it.. The place to check is your local Department of Revenue website.. for forms and information.. It's all about taxes.. and "their right to borrow money" on anything valuable enough to have a title.

A 32... hmmm.. Pick you something out of my stable, leave it here with me a few years.. "I would not need it much longer" and can will it back to you.

Paul,

http://www.txdmv.gov/vehicles/titles/bonded.htm

The Lost title app, is for a replacment title that was issued in YOUR name.. it will return a title in someone elses name.. who.. may be broke.. and wanting a old car.. Or a thousand dollars to sign the line.. or... deceased and subjext to... a hundred hungry heirs.

Please send appreciative steaks, beer to the home address, not the business Po box.
Heck, better than that.. just show up.. Let's have a cook out..

David is right Paul, just go to that Texas DMV sight and they will give you the process to get a bonded title for the car.

Step 1: Determine your eligibility

In order to qualify, you must be a Texas resident or military personnel stationed in Texas; or
Have a vehicle that was last titled in Texas.
The vehicle must be in your possession and cannot be considered abandoned, junked, stolen, or in any other pending lawsuits. Although not required to be operational, it must be a complete vehicle including a frame, body and motor or if a motorcycle, a frame and motor.

If you meet the above eligibility requirements take or mail the following documents to your Vehicle Titles and Registration (VTR) Division Regional Office (http://www.txdmv.gov/wheretogo/regional_offices.htm):

A Statement of Fact for Bonded Title (http://www.txdot.gov/txdoteforms/GetForm?formName=/VTR-130-SOF.xdp&appID=/VTR&status=/reportError.jsp&configFile=WFServletConfig.xml) (VTR-130-SOF),
A Statement of Physical Inspection (http://www.txdot.gov/txdoteforms/GetForm?formName=/VTR-270.xdp&appID=/VTR&status=/reportError.jsp&configFile=WFServletConfig.xml)(VTR-270)
Any supporting evidence of ownership (Bill of Sale, Invoice, Cancelled Check, etc.)
