New Member John Jordan came down for a visit today from Nashville. Really a nice guy! A master in the woodturning craft, John has an interest in learning to shape metal. After a brief shop tour, I cut him a piece of 18 ga about 14" in diameter, showed him the sandbag and tucking fork and let him have at it while my son and I kept on making ewheels.

John's a really quick study and picked right up on how to make and crush tucks.

After lunch I showed him the 'stump' and John discovered that stretching into the hollowed out stump was MUCH faster than trying to stretch the bottom out in the sandbag.

At Dutch's last year, we tried cutting a thumbnail in one of my UHMW hammers. John was playing with all the hammers and happened upon this one. He said it works very well on smaller tucks.

Between making lumps and tucks, John would wheel the bowl out on WheelaSarus.

I had a great visit with Kerry today, and was able to try some of the things I've been reading about. It's fun to put some of the things I think I understand from reading about them, into practice.

I started out on the sandbag, but went to the stump, and it REALLY made a difference for me. Hammering the bowl into the stump helps with the shape, and the tucks just naturally occur, where I was forcing them with the fork at first. Also, the tucking hammer work really well on the modest sized tucks-just squeezed the right in. :)

My arms are sore tonight, but happy. Thanks Kerry, for the visit, help, and posting the pictures :!: :!:

It was neat to see several of Kerry's wheels in progress. He makes the best e-wheel I have ever used.
