Hi everyone!
I've been busy with the copper roses since the Oblong IL/Dennison MN Metal Meets but I had a couple requests for larger garden flowers and here is what I came up with:
6870
6871
6872
The petals are the same as the patterns I use for Tulips. Only many more of them. The center is made by Chris taking my circle of copper on his sandbag and slamming a bowling ball on to it. I tap the tucks out of the edge and I have a nice little bowl shape. Then I take a rounded off framing nail and tap a few hundred little bumps into it. I solder the petals to the center and then using copper coated ground rod, I solder a 3/8" copper tubing clamp to the rod and center of the flower.
I had to makeup the leaves so I looked online for pictures and just did my best to copy them.
It stands 4 1/2' tall and is clear coated for outdoor protection.
Merry Christmas everyone,
Becky

Becky you need to set your bowling ball up with a spring. The spring I used was originally used to hold the trailer air lines and electrical cord on trucks. It's the perfect length and tension. I hang it from my crane hoist, but you could screw an eye in the ceiling.
Then Chris can work on cars and by you more copper;)
The flowers look very nice!! I need to get my wife to Dan's meet in the spring.
I forgot I had a picture

That is a great flower you made, I have been busy too with small roses and just finished a first attempt in making an orchid.
Not totally satisfied with the result but for a first try I think it is not too bad.

Beautiful work! Huh, maybe I will have to add a bowling ball to my tool collection. Does Harbor Freight sell them?

It really comes in handy. Not sure if I want to hang bowling balls from my ceiling as Jeff does, ( ) but he has given me great advice so far.
Noticed you signature... Just got back from a Fireman's meeting. Well, I guess the "meeting" was done at 9:00. Where did the last few hours go??? :D

Chris,
Your a big guy, put a handle on one, bowling ball that is! Sumtingwong Rob has one. If you get Tim Barton's books he has in about the "Roll-a-Ball" it is sprung from a frame or the ceiling, different sized balls (ewheel lowers sorry don't think they have flats from the pics). The lower section is a mold / die that is the shape of the part. This was used in airplane manufacturing during WW2, good consistent parts made by quickly trained workers. tt;)
