View Full Version : Front subframe on 50 merc

I am looking for some info. On putting a g-body front sub frame on a 50 merc frame.the measurements are pretty close.how do you figure out where to weld it in and make it square?not totally stupid,just really doubt myself.

You're going to decide where to attach the 2 sections by first finding the front axle center line so your wheels will look right in the fenders, and then finding the location where the two sections are as close to the same point as possible. To square it, you will need to take a lot of measurements, including by not limited to X measurements, side to side, and height. A plum bob will come in handy so you can mark on the floor and measure between points. I find X measurements the most useful as they will tell you if it's straight.

here is an album of pictures of a 51 buick convert frame i have finished.

nova front clip and 79 camero rear end.

had to make and replace main rails too.
with enough plannimg they can look like it came from the factory that way.

A friend of mine put the body on a monte carlo chassis, said it was easy, good contour match. no welding and alignment hass;el He dropped the front bumper down about 3 inches , made a new pan to fill in, also dropped the rear bumper down, air bags and it will cruise very low. the flamed front moon hubcaps are mounted to the front spindle nut. . they don.t turn with the wheels It looks lile the car is just floating
