The same Cubans that recently failed to reach Florida in a 51 Chevy truck ( it wasn't fast enough to outrun the US coast guard) have tried again in a 58 Buick. Hey they always called them "Boats". :D

These Cubans should be immeadiately brought to the Monster garage and given a set of Mac tools.

Who knew you could make a 58 Buick into a seaworthy boat?

A lot of welding and creativity went into this project !

Lets hope they let them stay this time.

You're correct, you know your Buick boats.

I watched a report on CNN last night where they interviewed the helpers with the Buick boat project back in Cuba. They said they worked five months on the project to get it watertight. It's pretty impressive when you think of the challenge to seal up the engine compartment.

There was still no word late last night whether the US authorities would let them stay this time. I think they screwed up, they should have had some mail onboard and called it a mail boat.:D

I read in the Seattle Times this morning that the Coast Guard gave this one the same .50 caliber salute that the gave the first one.

That's too bad. There was a southern Florida group that wanted to bring it ashore and put it into a museum exhibit on vehicles used to escape Cuba. This would have been a good item for it.

I agree, the coast guard should have brought the car to shore. It would make a strong statement of the importance of freedom and what length people will go to for it.
