I built the jig out of scrap yard tubing. The chassis is a mild steel 25.4 spec..

Finished TIG welding on the rotisserie

Since this is my first race chassis, I got it certified NHRA & IHRA (7.50) just to make sure everything was right before I continued.

I don't know what your real name is, but the Pro part of your user name certainly seems appropriate.

Very impressive work, well thought out and well-executed!

Now come on. You can't call it "Pro Street" till it's been on the street!

But the work looks beautiful. I assume you are a CNC Machinist???

Thanks everybody.
Chris I've been working on this thing for about 8 years now off & on. I sure hope I'm not to old to make it a Pro Street by the time I get it done. HEHEHEH. I run a 1 man sign shop, so I work on it when I have free time. (Today is one of those days. At least a few hours).
The CNC is for making signs, Cutting metal is a slooow process, but it allows me to make a lot of "Z" parts in-house.

Just kidding, your attention to detail is unbelievable. Beautiful work. Hope your finished ride finds you young enough and in good health to enjoy it for many years of hard work.

Thanks James, uhohjim & dmoss69. It's a fun project, but unfortunately gets sidelined from time to time. I haven't touched it since somewhere around early July, other stuff seems to get in the way. It's been an 8 year off & on again project to date, with no end in sight. I told my Wife the other day going 7's in the 1/4 mile is on my bucket list. Just hope I'm not too old by the time I get it running. :o
I guess just knowing it's out in the shop and I can work on it whenever I get spare time is enough to keep me content for now.:D

Unreal! Keep up the good work! It amazes me when someone builds a 7 second car that looks amazing enough to win the Riddler! Love all the custom stuff!

What a detailed work! I'm deeply impressed!
What kind of control have you got for your CNC?

Sorry I missed your post Frank. The CNC is a ShopBot® running Aspire® software.

BTW:
I'm getting some actual "Z" time in today. :)

Nope, I didn't get any build time on the "Z" again this weekend but my son & I did get a bottle tray fabricated for his Camaro.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/Bottletray2.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/Bottletray1.jpg

He's got to glue the rubber bumper in the bottom for the bottle to rest against, Mount the bottle heater to the tray & then give it a quick polish before final installation.

I "stumbled" upon this thread & realized just how long it's been since I've gotten any real work done on the "Z". Other projects & life in general keep getting in the way. BTW: I'll be a grandpa again sometime this week, so there goes more time. :)
I did get the "Z" firewall finished over the last while.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/Firewall5-28-11.jpg

Got it in primer

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/StrutSuspension.jpg

And I'm in the process of building hinges for the tilt front end that slide inside the frame rails. I went through all kinds of prototypes before I found the shapes that would clear where they had to clear & function how they had to function.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/Hingeprototypes.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/Frontendhingesassembled.jpg

They are designed to slide out 3.75" so the front end clears the doors, then slide up 1.75'' so the nose of the front end doesn't hit the ground when it tilts. I built them inside the rails to look a little cleaner & so they don't interfere with the rest of the stuff that has to fit in front of the engine. THis will eventually be a reverse drive F-2 Pro Charger set up, so it will get crowded by the time it's done. The front end is't to the actual functioning stage yet so we will see if the hinges work in the real world. Just need to find the time to get back on it.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/pro70z28/Hingehornsmockedup.jpg

That's about all I have on the "Z" lately.

Thanks everybody. Sorry, been busy & I haven't had time to stop by here much. Recently we took the Trans. (a Rosler 210) from my car & put it in my Son's car replacing his T56.
I replaced the plastic console with an aluminum unit.
Made a pattern out of some scrap coroplast.
