any bringin prodjekt this time ??

Healey trunk lid, time to make the inner structure. It's been collecting dust long enough now.

Bengt-Olof has a secret project, I'll leave that for him to reveal.

He's having problem registering again.

are you making a orginal look inner struktur ??

AndersK
02-25-2010, 01:32 PM
Dont know yet....
If I make it original the lid will be pretty stiff since edges are only folded 90 degrees.
The original structure is only 2 parallell pieces on top and bottom, not givin much strength. I think I'll have a problem with the seal this way (coming too close to the flanges). If I fold them 180 degrees the seal will be easy but I'll loose stiffness and need to make a structure all the way round.
Think I'll have another look in your greenhouse if that Healey is still around.

Since its not an original car I can build it to whatever fits best.

Made the FSP for Harry's 356 the other day. I was a a shop of one of my former apprentices, when I was a teacher at the technical college.
Here are a few pics that don't relate to the FSP. I'm just so impressed and happy with how thorough Thomas does his 356 restorations

http://www.metalmeet.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=11&pictureid=88

Here's a rebuilt engine. Don't worry, the rusty muffler will not be on that motor permanently. It's just for a test run. Look how nicely he put everything back into A1 condition.

http://www.metalmeet.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=11&pictureid=87

Bolts and stuff that has been cleaned and replated.

http://www.metalmeet.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=11&pictureid=86

A Volvo 544 and a 356 Roadster he rebuilt

http://www.metalmeet.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=11&pictureid=85

More rebuilt parts on the shelf

http://www.metalmeet.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=11&pictureid=84

Cars stored in another room. From left to right it's a 356 Coupe, a 911, a blue '57 Roadster and in the far Back ground a 444 Volvo. Next to the garden furniture is a Porsche Boxster (winter storage) and front right with the rear end raised is the roadster/speedster I took the FSP from.

http://www.metalmeet.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=11&pictureid=83

Finally the pic of the FSP sitting on the car. Sharpie markings are on the first layer of tape. Covered by the second layer, it is insured the marks/info won't be worn off

Looking forward to building some panels for Harry next week end and looking forward to seeing Y'all

Those Porsche 356 often have rot in the rear inne fenders/wheel wells.
There are 3 pressed in beads/ribs. Yesterday Thomas attempted hammering those ribs in, usong a simple female "lower die" hammerform and a peen hammer... didn't turn out super good. I said I might be able to build some fast and dirty tooling for the purpose (Tdoty, You'll just love this)

Here's a pic of the ribs I made today (not the actual shape of fender, just a piece of scrap to test the tools)

http://www.metalmeet.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=11&pictureid=94

Here's how I made the tools. Simple cone die attached to a muffler gun. A piece of 6mm (1/4") square rod bent into a U. Rolled a curve in the transversal direction on both "legs" of the U. Bent/rolled a piece of 6 x 50 mm flat (1/4" x 2"). Welded the U to the flat iron.Done in about 40 minutes.

http://www.metalmeet.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=11&pictureid=93

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, considering my effort :rass:

I'll be fine with a 6mm end mill cutter

I can bring one if needed. Probably a short one. I don't think I have long cutters below 8mm. What are you going to make?

6mm is a small mill and needs a bit more RPM than the one in the back room can do. If you're going to make something really small I can bring my "laptop" mill.

@Nico: In 2009 Karl Fredrik hosted meetings both early winter and late winter (November 6-8 2009). So you may have another possibility in 2010 if we treat him nice and don't wear him out this weekend. After last meeting 2 compressors and 1 scissor lift did not work anymore. So he have been busy this winter repairing after us.

The real reason for coming a day early? The budget price tickets were not available for friday...... :p

Arrived on time by the way and got the Ryanair fanfare as we touched down early.....

Einar,
a short one is absolutely fine. I had to make a new tool holder for the mechhammer, as I messed up the last one...

So - nothing fancy; but I sure would like to know what a 'laptop mill' might be...

See you tommorow.

Jaakko

ESjaavik
03-04-2010, 03:30 PM
I'm not sure if I see what you will be using a 6mm end mill for in making the toolholder. But I put 2 in my bag. One plunge cutter and one standard.

The vice for my laptop is probably too small to hold the Mechhammer toolholder. I assume it's the one you put the upper die into. I may bring it anyway just to satisfy your curiosity. :p

Or check this: http://www.lathes.co.uk/toyo/index.html
The mill is just the milling attachment taken off the lathe and put on a tiny X/Y milling table. With these Toyo's you can have a complete workshop on your kitchen table.

Have a terrific time at your regional meet this weekend guys!

I must say, you guys really set an example for the rest of us when it comes to attending regional meets. You guys seem capable of dropping everything and hopping on a jet or a seagoing ferry to attend a regional metalmeet twice a year over there, that's what I call dedication to the craft!

Have fun, and don't forget to send pictures! :D

Having ALOT of fun :) :) :) :)

Good to meet friends again.

We did a little metalshaping today. I'm bulding a rear panel for Harry's Porsche. Neil is making some interior panel between the inner rocker and the A-pillar. Anders K is working on the inner frame of his Healey trunk lid. Hightower is building a... uhm... errr.... "roof door" for his tractor. Einar is making a new toolbox for the same tractor. Karl Fredrik is running around servicing all of us. Bengt is making a buck for a '29 Model A. Jaakko is... I don't remember :D

Pictures??? We took alot... but we won't show you until tomorrow:twisted:  ... or Sunday. We are way to busy having fun here:p :D ;)

I started on the center piece yesterday and the corner piece this morning. Not quite there yet, but getting closer. The center panels doesn'r have consistant contour, but is changing from two defined lines into a shallow curve.

The blades are made of urethane (or rubber?). Anders N from Denmark brought a bunch of them. They dont get so much snow in Denmark

We tried some pressing with them and it worked great.
Seems to hold the material better than the stump when tuck shrinking as well on flanges.
