i sure would like to try to build seats like the one on the post :http://www.metalmeet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5886&highlight=b-17
how would i start? i am assuming i would need patterns. where would i get the patterns? do any of you have any patters that are similar? how do they form the edges around the perimeter of the seat? what thickness material would i use? i have a sheet metal shop at work where i might have access to some tools. i have a rivet gun and i just need a bucking bar. any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance

Brady,
I'll try to get some Boeing blue prints of the seat for you. In the meantime, here are a few more pictures of the seat being made. Pics and work courtesy of Dave Littleton, UK.

thanks very much tim, i work for (formerly america west airlines) now u.s. airways. the guys in the sheet metal shop might be able to help me a little. i have some clecos, a bead roller (still need to build it, harbor freight), compressors, air drill, rivet gun, etc. is there a cushion that you sit on, on the bottom of the seat? and what material is it made of? i know it will say on the blue print. thanks
sorry for all the questions.

Here is a picture of the seat type in the B-17 radio room. I am not sure what material is used to make the cushions, but I think they doubled as floatation devices (hence the yellow).

Here's your chance to have something very similar. You could make patterns out of this one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=004&item=140028832987&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

I know, this thread is several years old, but could someone send the blueprints to me, too?
IŽd really like to build at least one of those seats as an office chair.
greetings,
Jens

Here is a link to Tony's seat build on wcms, James Bowler did a real nice build but, I think it got lost in the "big crash"
