this is a quick video of a fairly rare forging hammer called a Kerrihard. Its a tiny guy that uses a helve that actuates a spring hammer. I've not seen another combination hamer that uses a helve to move the more standard hammer head.

Its on loan for a little bit while the owner is having his shop finished.

I'm thinking I should take good pic and measurements. It seems like a good combination hammer for hot forging AND metal shaping.....

I do think it would benefit from a stronger spring to tighten it up, but it runs great

That is very interesting. Are you impressed with the power of the hit or would you like to see more power or weight behind the hits?

honesty its very hard for me to say. I have only really used large hammers and am generally unimpressed with stuff under 100lbs.

I will say that vs using your arm ANY hammer is a huge improvment for moving metal once it reaches 3/4 square or so.

This definitely hits harder then a 25 little giant and is on its lightest setting. The mount on the helve arm slides as an adjustment for speed and power.

I really think a stronger spring would be an improvement and most likely it came that way as I have a thick one for it thats broken...
