Hey All,
Pardon me if this is the wrong place for this post, I couldn't find a better spot.
I got a call from my dad today and he mentioned an email a while back he had sent me about Hollywood Hotrods (i think in north hollywood?). He saw them on an episode of Rides.
Long story short, he was bitten by the bug, and want's to build/customize a '34 Chevy.
He has no idea where to start, he doesn't even know what he wants to do with it. He's open to all ideas, classic hot rod, ratrod, custom, whatever.
I was hoping to get some ideas from the board about their projects. Any pictures, style ideas, and dirty rotten schemes will be accepted.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Jay

Jay,
I'm not sure what you are asking. Does your dad have a 34 Chev that he wants to build or is he looking for one.
What body style does/will the project car have? Building a car has a lot to do with what resources are available, skills and money.

hi jay.
my first suggestion would be to go read all the mags out there (street rodder, rod and custom etc etc) and figure out what body style he`s after. (maybe do a search on 34 chevy`s and save pics on the computer for comparison)
my second suggestion would be to decide which era of styling he likes. (eg. street rod, hot rod, billet smoothy, traditional)

---Hi Jay,
Since, good, early chevrolet tin is very hard to come by You may suggest a fiberglass body. Or if you wish, you can come out and make patterns and gages off of mine. That would be a good project for you, reproduce a 34 chevrolet two door sedan:-).

How about a 34 Buick? Good rod material, already has Vette rear and Mustang 2 front, set up for chev SB, 4 door with hidden hinges and sunroof installed, great condition tin! in southern California.

Hey All,
Thanks for all the responses.
He does not yet have a vehicle, and to be truthful, I don't think he really knows what he wants to do with it. That's kind of what he was asking me for. Maybe he was hoping I would give him some resources for ideas. Maybe I need to get more info about what he wants. I think he just wants to play.
He is an old school car guy who got out of it when we were kids, and I think wants to get back in. I guess the "projects" my mom finds for him are no longer fulfilling. ;-) He knows a bit about engines (was a diesel mechanic) and I will probably be of some help with the bodywork.
I love Tony's idea of a scratch built shell, even though it seems like a big undertaking.
I guess I just wanted to open a dialogue about it and see what I got. I will point him to it and hopefully he will get involved in the conversation. That would be a big help.
Thanks again,
Jay
P.S. Yeah Tony, where was that car parked? I missed it.

I have q 1934 Chev Master 4 door that is available. I bought the car 20 yrs ago cut the top 2 inches ( Body only, doors not cut yet.) all steel is with the car except rear fenders. The wood frame is rotted completely. A bit of damage on front fenders. Grill and shell are nearly perfect. Have all interior window frames. This car has a brass plaque on the dash reffering to the 1934 Chicago worlds Fair. Fischer Body was there and I am told assembled several of these cars at the Fair. Someone told me this plaque indicates the car was built at the Fair.
Chevy Collectors..... The original dash with the plaque may be avaiable as a separate item.

---The 34 chevy is a future project. It is burried in one of my garages. It's all there except for the hood and the rear window garnish moldings.
---Tony.
I have a 34 Chevy pickup....cab is rough no rust. Fenders, grill, running boards and hood in awesome shape. Tin only, no frame.

Heres a 34 Chevy we did for a customer. Its not what most people think of when you say 34 Chevy, but it is. 34 Chevy Canopy Side Delivery, used to sell produce in California. We have done other 34 chevy coupes and etc. but this pic was handy and i couldn't resist posting it. The guy brought it in to the shop in several loads in the back of his panel van. For you guys not familiar with early chevys, they screw, and nail together using alot of wood! Well anyhow heres a pic.

He's my Australian 35 Standard phaeton (ALL STEEL) and a friends Australian 35 Master all enclosed coupe (Sedanette) :)
Have him go to a NSRA or Good Guys meet were he can see thousands of years and styles of Rods. After one of thous shows he will either know what he want or his head will really be spinning.

I've got a 1933 Chevy 5 window waiting in the winds. I have had it off and on for 15 years. I sold it to a friend, that sold it to my son, who sold it back to me:confused:. I will be starting back on it very soon:)

I built a 34 Roaster for Bonneville with the ugliest hood known to man. Finished the day before the car had to leave for Speedweek. Car is coming back to get the body and trim work to get to paint.
Image of car at Bonneville after its first short course run with Ken the driver/owner.
