When do you think we can see pictures of the completed project and maybe buy a ride in it? Are you going to make it right hand steering?

Hi RS,
That is the 1939 328 BMW racer that William Lyon's stole the design from when he "designed" ( wink wink) the 120 Jaguar.
Always loved that shape, certainly one of the best car designs ever. That would make an excellent replica project.
1934- 1939 The five best years ever in car design. There is a lot to learn from the designs of that era. I wonder why they were so inspired and so advanced. What fueled the imaginations of the designers? Remember most of the world was in a financial depression at that time.

I to have wondered what drove such leaps in styling and design during what was the "Great Depression"
Some observations that might be relevant.
With the collapse of so many companies there was a release of the tight stranglehold they held on their interest in keeping the status quo in place had made for so many years.
There were millions of people out of work this allowed for lots of "free time" which seems to have resulted in a resurgence of art/ design
Likely the biggest single factor was that "The people" were ready for change and what was different was viewed as a good direction, they didn't know what the future would hold but they were sure they were ready for it to be different.
Personally I to feel this era to be the highlight in design, it was fueled by imagination and fresh thinking (what we currently refer to as out of the box thinking) it is amazing what can transpire when people are set free to dream.

You forgot the big one.
It's the same reason we have all the big old solid stone buildings from the 1890s depression.
Cheap labor.
