Does this mean...

"Don't wear steel toes";

"Wear steel toes";

or...

I think that this injury could have been prevented by steel toed boots. I think that Heath is probably going to buy the steel toed boots with the metatarsal guards, which protect more than just your toes. He was not wearing steel toed boots at the time.

I wear steel toes when I am working.

looks like he wasnt wearing steel toes, and something heavy with a sharp edge (sharp edge beingthe key words) feel on his foot, slicing tru his shoe leather and his foot

if he had steel toes on, he might have still gotten a puncture wound, but iw ouldnt have gone all teh way up between his toes like that

definantly a nasty wound thats going to have him limping around for a while, pinky toes are more important then you think ... ive smashed mine before, and its not easy to walk without putting weight on them

I don't think of myself as squeeemish, but that photo made me cringe.

You ought to turn that into a holographic OSHA poster and hang it in the lunch room right next to the vending machines. :)

Isn't that where they hang that type of poster... you know the ones with the amputated fingers... or is that right next to the ice machine...??

Now my wife tells me that you aren't supposed to put the finger on ice. She says that it damages the tissue. You are supposed to just give it to the amputee for the ride to the hospital. They'll have better luck if it is still warm and ready to go....less vascular damage that way. She adds that if you're a smoker, you better quit since the smoking will reduce the healing capacity and likely result in a rejected reconstruction.

Ok I'll stop now....

Play safe!

if your at the ice machine, you already know what bloody body prats look like... no need for that poster to be by the ice maker

OH MY LORD!!!!! Words can't describe my reaction to that!

A few years back I had a tree crush my big toe. The last two joints were broken in 5 places, including the joint itself. Skin smashed open like a dropped tomato. The Orthopedist said the medical term was 'crushed to hell'.

They couldn't do anything for it but put me in a boot and tell me the skin would regrow after a few months. It did but drained for weeks. Pretty ugly and the toe no longer bends in the middle. The end of my career as a runner...lol.

An interesting thing was I had to fly the next week and went through the Atlanta airport via wheelchair. INTERESTING experience for sure. Being 6'2", I'm used to being able to see OVER the crowd and be able to see where I'm going. The wheelchair gave me an appreciation for folks who are less vertically challenged. From the wheelchair, all you can see are butts............................................. .................................................

And it's not always a pretty sight I can tell you! Who new I'd someday be the Dixieland Distributor for B--UGLY Tools and Services....

I think we can all remember stupid things we've done to ourselves in the pursuit of DIY. Point is, no matter how good it all heals up, it isn't ever the same again. EVER. So gang, safety IS worth the few extra minutes to go get eyes and ears. And foot wear, and welding gloves, etc, etc. Over the years my Dad broke both of his middle fingers right at the end, and of course they healed up bent. He always cracked me up in city traffic! John
