the tucking forks that rookie made for me have arrived!

and despite the fact that i havent yet hauled a stump into the basement and carved a large divot in it

and despite the fact that my friend still has my all my body hammers...

i decided to do one of the manliest types of things out there .....

i decided to bash stuff with a hammer ! and bash stuff i did !

i found a somewhat small piece of 1988 ford mustand door skin, and started to abuse it

u quickly started to get the hang of it,

a few tucks i did starting at the rear and working to the edge
a few tucks were done by flattening the edge and then working down the remaining bubble ...

now i gotta get my hammers and dollis back so i can planish it some and continue on

and oh yea, the centers still flat, this was just a little tucking practice

hi nick,
make yourself a slapper out of a leaf spring and do your planishing with that and a dolley. i have had way more success planishing this way.

Looks like you've cracked the code Nick! Keep at it. You'll find that tucking forks are easier to use (IMHO) if you put them in a vice. I guess I'm just not man enough to hold the metal in one hand and twist the tuck in with the other. With them in the vice, you can put both hands on the metal and really get it going.

in my ultimate use of impovising, i used a piece of stif carpet, folded over 8 times, as a make shift beater bag

Hi Nick. You are getting some decent curve into the panel. As Gary said, make yourself a slapper out of a leaf spring, try going to a 'U Pull It' automotive yard, I bet if you walk around you would find a broken one laying around, heat it to put a bent handle on it, smooth and polish. And a cap to a oxygen bottle with the top polished by a DA works good as a dolly. I used Randy's a couple times, high enough for some clearance and heavy enough to stay put, works great. That way you can plannish out the tuck marks.

Happy hammering, Phil

another round of tucking, along with some planishing with a dolly and a simple piece of plate steel. these forks are definantly stong, ive been trying everything from 2 inch tucks to 1/2 inch tucks, and

later this week i might make a mallet out of some hardwood and a spair hammer handle

when i get my tools back from my buddy, ill make a pattern of my spoon dolly and create a matching slapper
