Hi,
I have a 1990 34 foot motor home, that uses a PVC type plastic as a Radius between the side and the roof. The plastic radius is a form for the EPDM rubber roof to wrap over the edge and is held in place by a plastic trim piece.
The rubber roof is glued to the plastic radius.
The problem is: the plastic has cracked and bent (where the screws are) causing small bubbles in the edge of the rubber roof. The bubbles caused the roof to partially pull on one side of the roof, tearing the roof some and water and dust entered this area.
These raised bubbles along the edge of the roof threaten the integrity of the entire roof and the plastic radius needs to be replaced.
I talked to a friend that said, I should consider replacing the plastic radius (which is 4.25" around the radius) with sheetmetal. Ultra Violet light caused the Plastic to crack and bend making the bubbles and would do the same to the replacement plastic.
This 34 foot motor home does a lot of moving as it is being driven and my concern is the sheetmetal expansion/contraction characteristic (also from Heat)may be different enough to cause other roof Problems ?
I was unable to find the specifications for metal or plastics on the web
thank you,
ernie powell
P.S. if you think it would be better to talk about this problem, please send me your phone number and I will call to you. Sometimes email & posting can be lengthy and time consuming.
