Colorado-Wyoming-Nebraska Informal Shape-In

We are planning an informal get together to hammer and shape sheet metal, and get to meet some of the area metalshapers.

Bob has graciously offered his shop in Nunn, Colorado. Nunn is northeast of Fort Collins Colorado, and south of Cheyenne Wyoming. Bob figures that his shop can fit up to 20 people.

Our plan is for a one day event, on Saturday March 19th. If we get snowed out, we would try to reschedule for the following Saturday, the 26th. The hours would be more or less 9 AM to 5 PM.

The cost will be nominal, $20 or less, to cover the cost of metal and pizza.

We are open to any ideas about projects or demonstrations. We encourage people to bring their own projects and work on them.

As far as what to bring, gloves, safety glasses, ear protection, a sharpie marker, and hand tools. Bob has an e-wheel, but another one would be nice.

As we get closer to the date we will try to make a count of attendees, to plan the event and ensure that we do not have more people than will fit into Bob’s shop.

Mark your calendars, and we hope to see some of you in Nunn!

I am in Albuquerque NM, and hope to come up there for the getogether I know that I sure would learn a lot the only thing that might keep me from coming up is I have to have my lt. hip replaced but I think it is scheduled for the 23 .

I went to your web site and looked at your work I looked at the Mobius and I thought ok what is the big deal with this ribbon ??. Then I started following the outside edge and suddnley the outside became the inside !! (or is it the inside became the outside or is it the ...) I loved it in fact I have the Mobius as my wallpaper on my comp screen and all who see it think it is way cool. The only problem with looking at the Mobius is my brain starts to short circuit :)
also thanks for posting the plans for the hammer. I am gathering the parts to make one and hope to have it together this weekend I will post the pictures on my web site.
Thanks
Earl .

Richard and Bob,

I'll try to finish the shrinking hammer to bring down in March. Should be fun to play around with.

Looking forward to the meet.

I may be confused.

The event refered to in these posts is listed in this forum (Regional Metalmeets) leading me to believe it is in fact a Regional Metalmeet.

One would think the meet is an event as a part of this group.

The event is also listed in the Metalshaper's web site as a "SHAPE IN"

R A Ferguson first posted the meet notice on this site and 15 minutes later posted the same meet notice on the other site.

We proudly call our events "METALMEETS" The metalshapers seem to call most of their events "formfests".

Who is sponsoring the "Shape in"?

Who is sponsoring the "Shape in"?

I am.

This is an informal get-together at my shop, for one day, to allow us that live close by (so to speak :) )to get to know one another, see some new tools and ideas, and pound some sheetmetal. The invitation has been extended to members of both groups.

I am very depressed-I have waited for an event relatively close to me for a long time (it seems). Unfortuneatly, I will be in Las Vegas that weekend, or boy, would I be there! Any chance of moving it forward or backward a weekend  :( :D ? If not, I hope this is an annual event!

Thanks Bob for hosting this.
I replied to this last night but it didn't show up (?). This gives me incentive to finally finish my wheel, bring it, and maybe someone there can show me how to work it.
My wheel will eventualy have "power steering" but not any time soon. It does have an air brake chamber to control clamping force and up-down position.
Thanks again Bob and Richard, looking forward to meeting you and others with like interests.

I am extremely new to metalshaping but would love to attend to learn more from of you who are more experienced. I am a metal "fabricator" meaning I mostly use dimensional material for roll cages, bumpers, motor mounts, etc... I just have limited experience with sheetmetal. I'll bring some of my handtools, hammers, dollies, panel beater's bag, etc... I'll be heading up from Longmont, CO.

Thanks!

Bob,

My guess is that you own one, but if not and you think it would be useful in any way, I'll bring up my plasma cutter....

Thanks for hosting this! I am looking forward to it!

Hi Bob, Thank you for offering to host this event . I would like to attend assuming I can get up I-25 on the choosen date.
Do you want monies in advance or at the door??
What can/should I bring - If I have it and it'll fit in the car I'll tote it up there..? Is there a PM phone number and call time?
Hoping there is still room,

It looks like we are at about 10 attendees, with a maximum of 20, so we could take a few more. Looking forward to meeting everybody.

Bob,

Do you have room for another English wheel? Mine is close to being finished, just need to weld it together. This machine uses compressed air to preload the wheels. I'd like to be able to compare it to a conventional wheel.

Bob - I think we should have room, bring it on up! It sounds like something I want to see anyhow :D

Richard - I am back from the tropics, wish I was still there!! I had a gentleman call me tonight from Aurora (or Arvada, can't remember) who would like to come up with a friend too. I told him to post here so we could add theie names to the list.

Colorado - Wyoming Shape-In Report

We had a successful Shape-In in Nunn Colorado on March 19th.

There were 17 people there, which was more than the dozen we expected. Most of the attendees were from Colorado’s front range, from Denver north to the Wyoming line. We also had attendees from Cheyenne, Colorado Springs, and Yuma Colorado. We had promoted the event as a three-state event, but our expected attendee from Nebraska was not able to attend.

There were four english wheels there, including a couple of massive wheels by Bob Adame and Travis Bramlett.

Most of the attendees were novices, but they picked up hammers and started shaping after brief demos by Richard Ferguson and Travis Bramlett. There was also the usual storytelling and socializing, and some of us got to meet people face to face that we have known for years on the internet.

Since we had a good time, we agreed that we should have another Shape-In, perhaps in the fall. Thanks to Bob Nauta for hosting this enjoyable event, and thanks to all who showed up.

Hi Richard and Bob,

Looks like you had a great turnout, fantasic shop space, and plenty of tools on hand. That new e-wheel of Bob Adame's is a pretty impressive design.

Great job !

Wray,

This is the first time we got to try out Bob Adame's wheel. It's pretty stout, and from the looks of it he has some pretty cool idea's brewing up in his head. Can't wait to see what he comes up with next!
