In a few days I am finally going to fire up the O/A torch set up I got from my uncle who no longer uses it.
My question is, I don't have near enough money for a Henrob, but would eventually like to switch to that.
If I learn the basics of welding and cutting with a regular o/a, will it be harder or difficult to learn how to use a henrob, or is it bassically the same. I went to there site and I am amazed at what it can do. Unfortunatly I can't fork over 400 bucks american right now.
Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
A Henrob is what is considered a "balanced pressure" welding head. No great secret or mystery and lots of companies have made similar units over the years. The technique that is employeed for O/A welding is the same for either type of equipment so go ahead and fire it up. I use a Henrob just out of personal preferance (weight/balance).

If you haven't welded before, read some basic safety instructions and just practice like crazy. What you learn doing O/A will transfer to Tig.

I have used a oxy/acetylene welder before, but I just couldn't actually "weld" the welds just fell off because I wasn't doing it right.
The main reason why I want to learn how to weld with this is because theres a lot of different types of metals I can weld, and it prepares me for the much trickier TIG welding.
Thanks for the help!

Has anyone shown you how to set up the torch? The first thing to do is to set up the oxy and acet pressures for the size of welding tip being used. Bob.

I have found tig to be easier than o/a wleding. TIg is by far my favorite welding methods, it's much quieter and doesn't throw a million sparks everywhere. Tig on steel is easy but aluminum can be kinda tricky.

If I had the money, I'd buy a TIG in a second... but I dont have 1500-2500 dollars for a okay-great TIG
