Chopper tank metal gauge?

Hi there,

What guage of cold roll mild steel sheet would be best for a chopper tank. I will primarily be using a small english wheel and a mig welder for the project.

I test joined a couple curved pieces of 16 gauge and it came out decent, hard to shape though. Would 18 gauge be the preferred tank thickness?

18-20Gage for sides and top. The bottom/channel is usually 14Gage.

That make sense. I imagine the bottom would need to be much stronger to support the weight. Excellent.
