I was very lucky I had some one send a top ewheel anvil, 4in x 10in from the states. didnt cost me a thing but I had to use a brake lathe to get it trued but all has been working fine.
As for the lowers I have been making my own, out of ally (I have small foundry setup as well) delrin and steel. so far its turning out ok.
I'll post a pic later as I have been modifing the ewheel over the last couple of days. just strengthing it a bit more.
As for a source of upper anvils everthing I have come across has been ridiculously expensive.
Dave.

Hi (insert name here) It's not that hard to turn anvils on a lathe, even a small one. You can go here
http://www.metalmeet.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2756#2756
for details on how I used to make mine before we started selling them. We get ours from Hoosier Pattern now but I understand how expensive shipment overseas can be. There may be someone in Oz who makes rollers but I'm not aware of them. If you run into someone, please ask them to join MetalMeet so we will know who to refer folks to.
Regarding top wheels, you can get by quite nicely with a STEEL caster wheel. It won't be as hard or be able to be polished as nice as a purpose built upper but it will work. You'll need to true it up and soften the edges in a lathe. You can polish it using a DA sander and various grits of paper. If or when it starts to show wear, you can simply recut it true.
Good luck.

Kerry, thanx for the info, this is generally the way I make my anvils.
As for aussies look we are a pretty resourcefull bunch of guys and dont mind helping each other out, its just some things like metal shaping is noway near as popular here as it is in the states. Also because our market is very small,l many products never see the light of day down here also. But thats what the net is for though sometimes shipping just kills you. When I purchased my lancaster shrinker and stretchers last year I it cost me a quite bit in shipping though you cant really buy these items in australia or if you can the mark up is in the range of 400%. So we tend build everything I dont have problem with this. But in the case of some items I would rather purchase as I dont wish to build everything, Unfortunately I am a very busy person, so I have to delegate what I can and cant do and just have to be patient about getting things done.
oldn64, I have an old asian lathe not the best but in my situation it was a beginners lathe (I wasnt sure what I needed) it does the job but not perfectly, I find I tend have to much runout, and doing steel anvils just takes forever so I find I am doing delrin and ally anvils (I have a small foundry setup as well)
if I can help or you need to be pointed in the right direction just ask, I have been able to find just about anything so far so I havent been put off it just takes time. :P

Hi, ... have just been through the process of building my own benchtop e-wheel, and discovered the frustrations of trying to source wheels in Aus. For the top wheel the only options I found were from Richmond Castors. They stock mainly industrial cast iron wheels but do have a 200mm by 75mm wheel "made from K1045 steel". They're all pricey though and need to be trued up and polished.
I had no luck with anvils locally and so got a set via e-bay from Hoosier Patterns, which I'm very happy with. The airmail costs hurt a bit, but I thought better to go for a known and proven product than take a chance on getting someone locally to turn me up a set.
All I need now is lots of practice!
regards
Roger

Folks,
I visited many talented metal shapers a few years ago. One of the most talented was a gent, John Bednarz. He had a heiney wheel and some of the finest english bossing hammers I have ever seen. If my poor memory kicks in I will try to find the names and address`s of some.
I was surprised to see the wonderfull restorations and street rods being done over there.
where in OZ do you get e wheel rollers
I am about to get a set of wheels made from a friend who does some industrial machine work, he has told me around 5-7 hundred for the set(1x upper,3x lower) ready to go,this is only an estimate, but if you guys pm me your name and number ill let you know when mine are made and ill get them done for you as well !!!!

5-7 hundred seems steep depending on the currency. I assume you are talking 5-700 AUS which is 380-575. I know that shipping might be stiff but you won't beat the quality from Hoosier Pattern. Making anvils RIGHT is not that simple a task. Joe has made hundreds of sets and has it down right.
I have no association with Hoosier Pattern other than using their products with our Ewheels. I use them because they are the best, not because they expect me to post messages like this or give me kickbacks.

Kerry, you have to look at this way shipping kills us.
My upper ewheel cost somewhere around $250US just to send out as now I didnt pay for this, but I was extremely grateful for the sender picking up the tab.
Personally I would buy more from the US if I could have a central point where I could send things and put into a shipping box and send it to me by ship. Though it takes longer but I have a friend who is doing brake parts and it is costingly him $120AUS to send a 1metre by 1metre 1tonne package. The air shipping is highway robbery.
So at the moment I am making my own.
Dave.

i work in a factory with a whole bunch of CNC lathes and have been thinking about making up say 10 sets of wheels on my own coin, and selling them through the classifieds of Australian Hot Rod until they're gone...
reckon i'd get stuck with 'em? i'd probably have to risk about a thousand bucks to do it...

hi, Autocol,
Yeah I reckon so too, but if you want to go halves in it I may be able to accomidate it, I need to check my bearing supply as I still have quit a few left over to accomidate a run.
I'd rather have my steel ones made on a CNC initially, as my lathe isnt very big and is having trouble with 3in steel ones I have already. thats why I tend to make delrin and ally ones to get buy. But as I am gearing up to make new fenders for the chev I need to get my steel anvils out of the way (done or purchased).
your choice

Cyberrodder,
if you need stuff shipping from the states to Oz, Ray Flaherty from Junkyard Classics is a good bloke to deal with. He has an address in Long Beach, Ca you can send stuff to. The package must have a receipt with it so customs can work out the duty. He's very reasonable and helpful, as I've had plenty of things shipped with him without any problems
cheers
Bob

Col, Someone in your country is going to make the wheels and anvils eventually and they will sell. You have to get out and market them at car and bike meets.
All of the information on how to make quality upper wheels and anvills are on the site and then you can make super quality product and you will be able to sell them.Your best bet would be to make a nice ewheel frame and go to shows and demonstrate how easy it is for someone to shape panels with the proper tools and they will sell.
With your access to cnc machinery it will not be a problem to make the product. This site is here to help you in any way that we can. Dutch

I just posted a reply on upper ewheels to a question in this forum section,on how we made mine and its size. We also made our own lower anvils which have worked well. but if some is going to make them on cnc ,i would be very interested in getting a set of lower anvils ( the other post was under- a question for aussies)
