I have a Rockwell 11" variable speed lathe ( new in 1967) that needs the lower belt for the variable speed drive. This is the belt that goes from the motor to the upper variable width pulley.

I bought a new one from Mcmaster Carr, it was the correct length but it was too wide ( 1.375". This is the only width they offer.

The correct length looks to be 31" and the correct width is 1"

The Rockwell number is 25-501

and there is another number 1822V297

Anybody know a source for these belts?

Wray, I "assume" it's a flat belt. I had a flat belt made for my Buffalo drill press at a local rubber and gasket shop. The orginal leather one had dry rotted.

Alternative two would be to trim your new belt to fit. You can pull the pin from the latch that holds the ends together, clamp a 1" piece of steel to it and trim with a razor knife.

Hi Kerry,

Nope,:D this is a wide rubber V belt. It looks just like a standard rubber V belt but it is 1" wide.

That's a standard industry belt type number. 18/16" wide, 22 degree included angle, 29.7" pitch length.

Goodyear has some close, 1922V298 is 1/16" wider. Also a bunch more in that width in small increments longer. The 19/16" width belt with a longer length might work, it'd just ride a little higher in the pulleys.

Hi Doug,

Thanks for the info. :D Ron Naida emailed about the same time offering the same info.

I did a search of the Gates belt site and I came up with a part number that matches up with the Rockwell number .

I'll try the local bearing supply house( Kamen Bearing) in Worcester,MA this week.
