Back in June Wray gave us a project to try. Today I gave it a try.

I then tipped the revel lines. One tipped one way, the other line tipped the other way

I tried stretching the revel on a piece of rubber gasket material on my steel bench. It wasn't as satisfactory as I had hoped for.

http://www.metalmeet.com/photopost/data/500/8stretch_revel_1.JPG?2800

I then tried stretching the revel area over my small sandbag.

http://www.metalmeet.com/photopost/data/500/8stretch_3.JPG?9957

I then put some vertical shape into the panel

http://www.metalmeet.com/photopost/data/500/8stretch_panel_vertically.JPG?1274

Then I planished the panel over a dolly in a vise. I used the spoons I made at last years Metal Meet (FF02)

http://www.metalmeet.com/photopost/data/500/8planish.JPG?5887

I tried using a beading roller and a rubber roller to bend the window edge of the door. It worked really slick!

Here is the door with a straight edge to show the curvature

It was a fun project that didn't take much time, but taught me a lot.

Thanks Wray

thanks for moving this Wray. I still don't know what I did wrong. How does one get ones post to "stand alone" like mine is now?

Hi Jim,

You didn't do anything wrong. The fact is you made a great post that deserved it's own forum. The best bet if you don't know where to best place a post is to post it in the general discussion forum.

As this site develops because of the many forums sometimes subjects overlap, so it will be appropriate to place overlapping posts in several forums. That can be the job of the author, but most likely it will be done by the moderators. Each forum eventually will have at least two moderators. We'll get there but it will take time for the members to learn how to use all of the potential of this site.

One of the best festures of this site is how easy it is to edit posts and move them if needed.

Thanks for a great post, I was hoping to revisit making that scale model of the ZM-2 door skin, but helping to build this site, plan for MM03 , take care of my customers, and all the other tasks have sapped my "free time" away.

Hi Wray,
Just so I understand. I could not have posted my own forum to the TUTORIALS area? But I can post forums to the general discussion area? I'm not making a judgement here, just trying to understand the procedure. I did that posting 3 times as the post kept getting wiped out before I could finish it. I finally got it done and the site asked for my log in when I submited the post. I thought I lost it then, but hit my back button after loging in again and found the post. Submited it again and it showed up as if it was a reply to your post. I was (and still am) really confused.
When I posted the bead roller forum, everthing seemed so easy. Don't know what went wrong this time. :?

As I look over the posts and forums, I think I have figured out my own confusion  I can post to FORUMS. I cant CREATE forums. Have I got that straight this time? :? I was confusing the terms and where to post.
Thanks for your patience....Jim

Hi Jim,

Only administrators can make new forums. ( that would be David Miller and myself). If anyone sees a need for a new forum I will make it happen. Carey asked for the safety forum recently and I made one right away.

From reading your post about losing info, I think I know what your doing wrong. You need to get the photo links to insert with the img tags and instead of opening another window to do that, you are using only one window and the back button. That can be risky, use two windows, one for the gallery, and one for composing the post.

Did I read the situation right? :D

Hi Wray,
You wrote: Did I read the situation right?

No. I did open a new window. There is a good chance I hit the ctrl button instead of the shift button  The part about the asking to log in again when I try to submit has me confused. That has happened before.

Hi Guys,

We'll just have to have a little patience. Jack and the php guys are working on moving the missing pics from the old gallery to this site. It'll only be a matter of a few days, snd we'll be able to see it all (or most of it)

Thanks, Anders. I apologize for the impatience; I didn't know that the pictures were in transit from the old gallery. That makes sense.

Hi Matt,

No reason for apologizing. Only reason I know, what's going on is, yhat I sent a PM to Jack and he explained to me that he and the php guys are working on it and hopefully the problem will be solved within a few days. I also miss alot of pics.
By the way... if you have any threads, it might be nescessary for you to go in to edit some links, once the old gallery is transfered.
Regards

I dug back and found this thread but could not find the challenge it refrenced. The pic wont come up on my computer so i was wondering if you could find or repost the project. Some who are intrested my try to do this and bring the results to MM5 to find out what went wrong or right. Maybe we could make a beginers contest at MM5 on this or another project based on the equipment at the meet. Winner gets a door prize or something donated. Idea ...Gator

Still no images available from the links at beginning of this post. 404

jlrussell4 gallery found at
http://www.metalmeet.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=500&page=3&perpage=12&ppuser=9&what=allfields&=&action=
but pictures of this door project did not seem to be there anymore.

If there is no chance of repair, perhaps the thread should be edited out? I would be curious to see the images if they still exist.

You're a legend Anders. I haven't been here long, but I'm impressed by the level of commitment by some members to make this forum special. You're one of them.

Not something I'd normally say really.

I have looked after a php site (nfs-racer.de) set up by someone else (without fully understanding it) so I know how much can go into upkeep....

http://www.nfs-racer.4players.de English/German
EA Need for Speed 5- Porsche Unleashed site. The original webmaster moved on to other things, but didn't want to shut the site down. I took it on for a year or so, but once I lost interest in the game, I lost interest in the site.

Thanks for trying to get those links fixed.

WOW Seasalt,

THANKS for the nice words http://www.metalmeet.com/forum/images/icons/icon7.gif I'm just trying to do the best I can to help make this great "family" work http://www.metalmeet.com/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif

Jack e-mailed me this morning and unfortunately, he's not able to restore the links/pics in this thread. David Miller, the old webmaster has the pics/links on his server and he doesn't repond to Jack's e-mails??? Don't know what went wrong!http://www.metalmeet.com/forum/images/icons/icon9.gif
Maybe the "thread starter" can find the pics on his computer and restore the post?

I will look and see if I backed up some of my old picture files. I think I lost them in a computer crash http://206.125.208.236/forum/images/icons/icon8.gif Give me some time though, I'm going out of town for a few days.

Hi Jon,

Those are not of the scale model door. They are pictures of my long stalled swap meet wagon http://206.125.208.236/forum/images/icons/icon11.gif. I have started work on it again, but haven't gotten a lot done. I'll look for the other pictures soon.

I found the saved pictures!!!! They are now uploaded to my album.

Maybe Jack can insert them into the album someday when he has the time.

Hi Amoros,

This post goes back to 2005 with the old forum software and the off site photo storage that the origional webmaster set up for us. All three are long gone. The pictures are too.

I still have the hand worked "door skin" - a small aluminum panel made to show what could be accomplished with a minimum of tools.
